S-AFC Troubleshooting

I thought my S-AFC was installed properly, since everything appeared to be working, but now I'm not sure if the MAS signal is being modified when I adjust the fuel settings.

Does anyone know some ways to test the connection? I tried modifying the fuel settings a significant amount up and down at idle (1k setting), but there was no obvious change in the idle...it remained smooth no matter how high or low, and there was no change in exhaust odor. I was just about to tune the car using my pocketlogger, but then noticed that LTFT wasn't changing, so I stopped to get some help first.

I don't have that. I'm asking about techniques to use right now on the fly.

I set it up according to the VFAQ on evotuners.net that most people refer to on here. All of the settings and connections are correct, but I'm not 100% sure if the MAS signal is actually being modified when I change the fuel settings.

did u use pin 58 or the one they recomended! i think 88 or 89!
use pin 58 for rpm green!
make sure all wires are snug tight!
i have experience with the vafc!
installed my safc 11 this past weekend and my evo pulls hard as hell it scares me to death!
need i say dyno tis weekend and drag strip here i come
email me direct if you need help!
i have a folder i keep with all my mod i.e. install info!
i do them all myself and save the $$$ to buy more mods
it may be safe to initialise it first then go to set it if u did not buy it new!
if i may suggest going through the steps 1 by 1 and check them off as you go!
by the way i used wire taps and a heavy duty crimp!
worked well for me!
my english and typing sucks though!!
sorry about that!

Yes, I used pin 58, but I'm not having any problems with rpm or anything else besides the actual modification of the MAS signal. My RPMs, Throttle, and Karman all read exactly how they should, but when I make fuel setting changes, nothing seems to happen. I re-checked the wiring, and it's exactly how the VFAQ says. I even used heat shrink on the MAS connections, so they shouldn't be shorting out or failing to connect.

THe S-AFC is mine and was used on previous DSMs that I had. On those cars, it always worked quite visibly, as I could adjust the fuel settings at idle and hear the idle change drastically. I am going to redo the wiring, install it again, initialize it, then reset everything from scratch like you said. We'll see...

Well..here's the problem. During idle, the evo is in closed loop. Anything you do to affect the idle on the afc will always change back to 14.7 at idle.

true! you will notice the changes 3k and above because the car should pull harder!
before u redo everything put it under the monitor mode and drive down a lonely road and see if where the settings are accounted for on the safc starting at the point you start to take %age out! -3, -8 etc.
this just does not sound right!

make sure your car is warmed up, at least 15 minutes when you make your changes.

also, it take at least 3 wot driving to feel any sort of changes.

if that doesn't work, go get a dyno and see your a/f chart.

that or get a wideband.

Yeah, I think the AFC is working now, but I will wait to until I get on a dyno in June to make the final determination.

go to lo/thrt... then go to the lowest rpm and drop it like -11% if the car has a low idle etc.. its working.. Dont leave it like that obviously but it works.. thats how i checked mine.. with cams its even more evident in how the car lopes.
