Building a DYI knock listener

It was starting off form the topic of "knock value" here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=154517

Then I spent an hour google'n and finally found an URL about it.
http://home.netcom.com/~bsundahl/kno...ten/listen.htm

I am not an electronic engineer, could someone please translate this information to simple English? I need to know the part list for the headphone type listner on the second diagram. Resistors listed here do not have a spec (other than 1/4 watt) ... and I suppose all C1, C2, C3 and C4 are all rated at 15V? I am a bit confused.

I would love to try to make one and test it out on the Evo, but I really need the part lists

kmcconn9,

I am already using something called Knocksense, which is an inexpensive tool widely used in the Volvo community. It basically read an voltage signal higher than a preset level, then it will light up the LED. The higher the voltage is, the brighter the LED. But it doesn't tell me exactly rather it is engine noise or knocks. I think KnockLink is basically the same thing, except that it uses multiple LED which makes it more useful. Thanks for your input, but I am really looking into something that I can listen to what's going on.

stuevo03,

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I am looking for! Now that is something I can understand
