GM Maf with Utec

I am planning on installing a GM Maf and using the DSM Maf translator to make it work. Everyone says (Including the makers of the translator) that it will not work for an Evo however they are almost surely wrong. People have been using Evo MAFs for awhile in DSMs therefore it is obvious the output signal to the ECU is the same format (Just reads differently). However, the Utec has the injector compensation so I will use that to get the hertz readings close and then fine tune it with the fuel maps. I see absolutely no reason why this will not work. We have a spare MAF and translator so whenever I get a new clutch thrown in the car I will try it out and let you guys know how it works. I just have too many things to do right now so it is impossible to get to work on the Evo. I am also building another race car out of a 1985 Mazdo RX7 newly powered by a Chevy smallblock. That conversion it getting close to done. I just need to re-wire the whole car and finish stripping it and eventually throw some turbos on it and see what a 1800lb car with 450-600horses does at the track with some huge slicks

The MAFT will work with the Evo, you have to use the wiring diagram for the 2G DSM, and yes, it needs major adjustment for it to work.. But it will.. My Pro-Flow setup uses a Cobra MAF, but its electronics were designed originally for a DSM and I had no problem installing it, it took a few months to calibrate it though..

the UTEC will have a firmware upgrade that allows the GM sensor, only I haven't spoken to them recently so I have no idea what features and when..

And what a coincidence.. I had a V8 powered 82 Mazda RX-7 that I built in 1990.. car got stolen not too long after I installed a widebody kit.. Mine was Ford 302 powered with a Doug Nash tranny and ford 9"

If I were in your shoes, I would wait and see what is included in the next firmware. I was at Turbo XS last month and it looks like a blowthrough GM MAF and translator and going to be part of the next firmware and features. On another note I am seriously considering resurecting an old race car and powering it with a Evo engine. It is a Opel Gt that used to go 9.20 with an 800lb big block only making about 500 HP. With an Evo engine and automatic (yes automatic) the car will only weigh about 1600lbs. Just need to raise some funds.

And the evo motor is capable with some boltons and a turbo to go well over the 500 mark.
