If you had pre-ignition, how fast would the EGT-meter react to that if the sensor is mounted after turbo? in the same time when the detonation has killed your engine?
Pre-ignition or not, EGT is useless after the turbo. Readings will be off by several hundred degrees. It's vaguely like connecting your boost sensor to the exhaust manifold. EGT is best placed in the manifold within a couple of inches of the leanest burning cylinder.

EGT is not for knock detection. It is simply to keep you from melting the inside of the combustion chamber. Hence my statement that one tool alone is not enough. In any case, if you EGT is too high, then you must find out why...

Thanks for the advise so far...

I was able to tune the car to a very flat 11.4 - 11.6 A/F with the SAFC on a mix of 93 & 104 octain with my boost between 1.3 & 1.4 bar. I know there is a lot more power to be had but my timing was as high as 22* in 3rd @ 7200 & 19* @ 6800 in 4th which is the higest its ever been so I know the car is making more power but how high can/should I go with my A/F?

+1 Especially without discrete control over timing...

I'm going to try and retune for 11.5's on pump gas now with the boost a little lower.

Does anyone know which wire I need to tap on the ECU to see timing? Cam Position Sensor, Crank Position Sensor? I tried tapping the "ignition" wire but that just reads .03v steady. I would like to stop using my pocket logger if possible.
