Whats a good plug & wire set up?

I'm considering some minor upgrades and a nice plus/wire set-up is my next in line. I am considering a NGK set-up to improve the already great Evolution VIII. Let me know what everyone thinks.

Those aren't upgrades. I recommend focusing on things that actually are upgrades. Keep your stock wires and only change your plugs if something is wrong with them. If you bought used, then you probably have no idea what plugs are in there. Take them out and look. If they are the IGR7A's or whatever, then they are the stock Iridiums, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't the original plugs, so check them, then report back what code they have on them. THen, you could replace them with NGK BPR7ES gapped to .026 for $7-8.

Btw, just to reiterate, installing NGK plugs does not improve the car. The stock plugs are great. NGK plugs will probably degrade the car - do not buy those.

everything stock, I bought the car brand spankin new, so whats a good upgrade? I was told by my family member that works at Mits, that the Evo in stock form is great and certain socalled upgrades can only hurt the performance.

They are cheap to replace, can be re-gapped, and can withstand high boost. However, there is no need to replace your stock plugs until they give you problems and foul. I ran my stock plugs through all my mod levels even down to 12.01 on race gas and 24psi, but they eventually fouled from all the race gas, so I started using NGKs. Better to spend $7-8 and mess around than $30-40 if racing and using big boost. If just staying stock or having basic mods that don't change, then using stock replacement iridiums are fine, too.

Koseiko, so you've had your 04 since it was new back in 03/04 and haven't changed plugs? How many miles do you have? You might want to at least pull them out and check them. I don't know what that Mitsu person told you specifically, but the Evo is one of the most responsive cars to mods that there is in the world. You can add 60-70whp over stock with just over $1000 spent. However, there are also mods that do absolutely nothing and can hurt performance, such as changing your plug wires or installing an aftermarket intake or BOV...

well I have about 25,000 miles under the hood and I have primarily been able to drive my wifes 05 4Runner all winter primarily. I haven't really tried to touch anything yet on my Evo due to I love the car and feel it's a beast without doing anything. I do have a drop in HKS Filter, and plan on replacing the BOV with the JDM Evo MR, which is a metal version which can handle more boost/sounds great and is a direct bolt on the Evo 8(us).

Yeah, the JDM MR DV is great (I used it before my Forge), but you don't need it if your car is stock. Get one after you do mods and raise the boost.

Btw, the HKS drop-in is not re-usable, so after 5-10k miles, it's supposed to be replaced.

is that so, how about the K&N Air fliter? I'm looking for a nice improvement to my air filter, but also from my readings, it says that the HKS is re-usable but you have to use pressurized air to clean it.

If you now plan on going with Vishnu after all my help, then I'm sure they can answer your questions in the Vishnu forum. I provide a full stage 1 mod list in my sig for everyone to see, but if that doesn't answer your question, then I'm not sure what will.

I would recommend the APS BOV. It is adjustable, bolts right into the stock location, is recirculating under light loads and VTA when under full load. Dont listen when people say the stock is good enough. It is a plastic piece of junk. I used to get flutter under very light loads which is why I replaced mine. The JDM diverter is a very cost effective part. If you are looking for something with a little more quality and is adjustable for future mods....go APS. Sounds almost like the stocker too.
