Cobb accessport for evo 8&9.....
Flipping threw this months Modified magazine there was a little piece written about the new Cobb accessport out for the Evo 8 and 9. I always thought they were only Suby specific? I have two friends that have them for there subbies and they are great products. I am curious as to when they are going to release it for the evo. One of my friends said is has been in development since 04 in conjuction with Works (cobb+works). Any one know anything? Thanks

I had my STi Protuned last week. The tuner said he has been beta testing the AP version for the Evo and that it will be available in about 3 months.
I can't wait until it does come out. It is an awesome product and you will no longer have to pull your ECU for a simple flash. You simply flash the OTS map from Cobb to your ECU and go. You can also have the car dyno tuned and you can switch maps back and forth. If you make any major changes you just have the car tuned again and flash the new map to the ECU.
It is definately worth the wait.

theres really not much point to it...i mean when you can just use ECUFlash for free and all you need is a $90 cable from www.tactrix.com . I'm sure the accessport wont be that cheap at all, and its limited to what cobb lets you do with it. ECUFlash can do everything, it just got support for evo 9 flashing and theres a datalogger in the works, and its all free open source software. Just check out the ECUflash forums here on in the engine management section

i also read that in the new madified mag, that will be a hella alot easier then sendin your ecu to cali, and considering i dont want my car to have any down time that would be a alot easier. too bad i already purchase an afc, we'll see how everything goes.

Cobb has the same access and ability to tune any of the tables that openecu does. If you want to tune the Evo yourself, the StreetTuner will be available with access to any map needed. It tuning is not your forte, then have the car ProTuned at one of Cobb's network of dealers.
The kicker is Cobb has the ability to log any of the MUT parameters, table data, and other parameters not available to the MUT. That means you will be able to know where you are in the maps being adjusted (Fuel, Timing, Intake Cal, ect.). Logging will be a feature with an AccessPort and/or the StreetTuner.
Another benefit is Cobb's customer service which is always top notch in the industry. Something happens to your ECU and you have someone to help you out.

I'm a strong supporter of the AP after I had my STi Protuned. The tune alone gave me an additional 51 hp and a staggering 87 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels. The best part is the broad flat power curve. It never seems to run out of power. If the tuner could do this on an STi with only an exhaust, I can't imagine the power there is to gain on my IX.

I put an AP in my WRX and it was nothing but problems from the beginning and I never got my issues solved. I even called Cobb and they were no help, I told them what I had been trying and they just just said " yeah...that might work." Pro Tuner might be good way to tune but you still have to buy an AP plus the pro tuner software.

If you buy an AP, it comes with preloaded maps which are conservative but good and safe. If you put on parts that are outside of the realm of these maps, then you will have to get your car Pro-Tuned.
You dont need pro-tuner software, as a matter of fact, you cant buy protuner software unless you are a business and have a dyno and a whole bunch of other restrictions.
What you might be refering to is StreetTuner, which is software that an enthusiast can buy and tune the car themselves.
I hope this helps

Sorry if this is a basic question but this has ben bugging me for a while and I need info.
What happens to us who already have upgraded injectors? Will we need to resort back to a stock type map in the ECU and then have the AP rescale the injectors for us? I remember when using the UTEC this made it a huge pain in the butt to get the fuel trims dialed in. What would the easier way to do this? Leave the ECU alone or re-flash back to stock.
