if it sputters with smoke, its rich or burning oil...

if it sputters and tries to die but no smoke it could be lean...

If the tailpipe appears "wet" inside and you touch it and it smells like unburnt gasoline you're either really rich or have a spark issue.

Another option is to hook up evoscan and see your fuel trims.

Overall, the best option is to get a wideband.

*note* I'm no expert, this is just my opinion!~

If the rod blows a hole through the block then it's too lean, if your plugs foul within 10 feet then it's too rich.

I agree. If you have NO way of using electronics, look at your plugs. Its something every car enthusiest should know. Reading your plugs can tell you everything your engine is doing. Easiest way... wideband.

i think if you have to ask what a wideband is, then this is not the right forum for you and you should not be doing work of any kind to your evo... http://www.rccars.com/........ i think you should start modding one of these before you start working on anything over 50cc lol...

^^^ Yes we do. Its called the newbie section! I think you should have to be "stuck" in that section for 3 months before you can post anywhere else.
