Tuning 4 Faster TURBO SPOOL

I try to bring up this topic for more understanding of how to tune for Faster Turbo SPOOL. And MORE POWER. Here are some suggestion that i get from some Forums.. If anyone have try any of this please let me know which is best and why...etc

1) Some ppl try to Adjust the Cam Timing( Not ign Timing) which Advance both the Intake and Exhaust Cam so that it will let Hot air out faster to Spool up the Turbo.

2) Lean AFR(13.5~14) RPM range 3000 to 4000.. Which help spin up the turbo faster.

3) Retrade the Ignition timing on range 3000 to 4000rpm. which make burn slower and push more hot air into the Exhaust and spin the turbo.

4) Use a smaller wastegate which make more air for the turbo to spin.

5) Increase the size of the Throttle Body. like 60mm -> 75mm which again increase more air into the engine and produce more air for the turbo to spin..

if there are more suggestion please let suggest and do remember why u use it.

this could potentially be a long thread. I have had this discussion with several tuners and it seems there is more than one way to do this.

I have found that the evo likes a lean spool more than a rich one. the subaru's like it richer maybe engine design. My car runs between 13.5 - 14.5 up until about 4000rpm when it tapers to 11.9 - 12.1
I also run meth and it does not come on until around the 4000 range. the turbo spool is great but then I am also running a small turbo TD05HRA.

Most people with cams run around -3 intake -3 exhaust. this seems to give better mid range and top end, if you using a small turbo it works out great, then every car is slightly different

I would love to hear from someone like david buschur on this topic.

Stupid Question,Maybe

To anyone that may have an answer to this question i would greatly appreciate the help!! Seems when i get my rpm's over 4500-5000 on my evo they wont drop! It takes a bit but eventually does.This frustrates the crap out of me! Its done this from day one and just want some way to fix it if its messd up! Thanks for any input anyone has!!!!

Faster spool = faster exhaust gas = more kinetic energy = more heat.

There are a few ways to get more heat. As salty dog said, use leaner afrs & cam gear settings. Another way would be to reduce timing during spoolup.

On the mechanical side, one can try increasing the preload on the wastegate so that the maximum exhaust gas is used to spool the turbo up to desired psi.

11,7-11,8 afr with lots of timing just up to before knock becomes a problem-from 2800-3900rpm then you lean progressively adjusting timing of course(reduced) to prevent knock until you reach 12,2-12,4 afr at redline.

you can also create more heat with richer afr and more timing.

Thanks I will try with reduce the AFR on the 2800-3900RPM and increase the timing and see how that work.

Increase the timing and increase the fuel at range 2800-4200rpm will be quiet good as my result... anyone can try this is a good way to increase boost faster... Happy tunnings and THANKS GUY!
