Speed Density?

I have been reading seeing in several threads about speed density. I would like to know a little more information on what it does? How does it help? What do I need? What will be the difference in power and drivability? How much would it cost me? From the looks of it it looks like its worth it but before getting this tune I would like to learn a little bit more about it.

thanks!

in basic terms, ur removing a restriction, ie the maf, its like removing the cat in the exhaust. I have a couple buddies running SD and drivability is stock and they gained a few ponies

I'm very interested in this as well, but I also frequent high altitude (sea level-10,000ft). As far as I understand there is not a good solution to altitude changes with a speed density setup.

Pay attention to the speed density 2.0 setup where they are attempting to intergrate a baro sensor into the setup as to solve rapid altitude changes for startup routines.

The car itself will run the altitude changes quite well its the startup and intitial run that gives it problems, AFIK.

My drivability improved greatly with SD, I have a tial Q n kelford 272s which made the car difficult to idle. Your gonna need at least an omni 4 bar sensor, GM IAT sensor, ECU pins and most importantly a tuner that is very familiar with SD (my advice is diiirk since you already live in FL).

I just got my *** converted to SD yesterday by the great Johnbradley and i was awesome. The car runs nice and strong.I gained 10whp so this number might be different from you guys out there and it depends on the tuner also.

I had been interested in running SD since some of the builds I was using as a guide were running it and I felt that it would be necessary to get the most out of a BBK turbo.

Turns out it's not really needed unless I plan on running something much larger:

Currently there is an issue in that the SD conversion does not use a barometer for calculations so the car will not run 100% correctly at varied elevations

So there you have it, straight from some of the most respected guys in the industry.

Since you are eliminating the MAF sensor, then yes, you can run a front facing turbo.
