Unhappy Evo XIII stroker kit Lots of Boost. Bending rods. Just bought. Need fast honest help

Hello, My name is skyler. I bought an evo viii MR with 69k miles. it was driven by the previous owner from new york to oregon. The Owner before that put a stroker kit in it. the engine failed, and the car spent 8 months in a shop. The engine was rebuilt, and all apparently seemed fine. still had the stroker kit, and they were advised to get it tuned. The previous owner took it to English racing, got it tuned, and it dyno'd 350 hp and 414 torque. I bought it from them and it seemed to drive ok. I only drove it hard for maybe 20% of my 60 mile commute a day. Never redlined it. Well, the other day was my first time taking it over 100 MPH....then I heard a dreaded knock. intuition tells me its a bent/broken rod. It is running at 27 lbs of boost.

The reason I am here, is what can I do to keep the evo at its current power, and up the reliability. is this much power truly not ok for the car? the mechanics said they work mostly on domestic stock vehicles...so I am unsure if their comfort fix is to take out all the fun things, or they are correct and the car isn't meant to run that power. Please help me. Not trolling, I just need a jumpstart into the evo community. I am new to modding, so pardon my blatant ignorance and leaving important pieces of information out.

I am sure the engine needs rebuilt, and that will suck a lot...My fear is will the car do this to me again? and what do you guys do to keep your cars truly reliable?

it's an evo VIII (8) not XIII (13).
Your evo power was unusual, way more torque than hp. I have a 2.3 and quick spool HKS GT-II turbo and my torque is still lower than my hp.
Your instinct is right. You need to bring to an evo shop, not the domestic one. I think there's one or two evo shop in Oregon.
You can also buy a long block from one of the well known evo specialist vendors here.
Either way it'll cost you some cash. Got to pay to play.
Hard to keep the car "truly" reliable once you mod it for high power but the evo is quite reliable if you have the right build and tuned.

Thank you

What could it be doing to be so unusual? I know it has a 2k$ exhaust in it. Is it the stroker kit causing so much torque? And I know it has stock turbo. It has some front mounted inter cooler too. About how many thousand dollars do you think it would take to get the car set right? I want a 400/400 daily driver that won't break things. Am I in fantasy land?

yep! stroker and stock turbo will do that.
$2k exhaust for the VIII is expensive and probably not much better than cheaper exhaust in term of power. I'm curious. What's the brand of that exhaust? I know the X has some expensive exhaust system but not my beloved VIII.
400/400 on dynojet is doable with the VIII if you have built engine, which you need, and e85 or upgrade turbo.
In my experience, built block with all supporting mods and some higher flow turbo, labor and tuning good enough for around 500 whp will cost you well over $5k. And that is considered a good deal.

Take the car to English racing do not let them work on your car. It's not that far from where u are at. Have it towed if it's not drivable.

There are plenty of people that run 400 plus hp and daily drive there evo's

Bring your car to English Racing. Rest assured you and your car will be in good hands.

Thank you. If it's a bent rod, how much money do you think it would take to get back to good? And is it too much torque?

If it's a built motor it should not be too much

Wouldn't I need to do something to keep it from bending/breaking another rod?

If u have aftermarket good rods they should not bend or break if properly tuned. Detination is what would cause them to break it's all about how it's tuned.

Take the car to English do not let a normal shop work on your car if you do you are just asking for problems. They are the best around for evo platform.

Car will not start on its own, once running via jumpstart it needs to be over 3k rpm, like it needs lots of compression just to stay alive. and the faster the rpm's, I can hear a knocknocknocknocknock. sounds like its coming right out of the engine. She sounds like she is in a lot of pain..

edit: engine light is on, and when the rpm's go past like 5k it flashes at me.
