What are the suggested 272 cams to put in my Evo VIII

I am looking at Kelford and GSC. What are peoples opinion between the two or anything else I may want to look at?

Only looking to go with S2 since I wont be upgrading my turbo any time soon. Now do the valve springs have to match the brand of the cams and can I put off purchasing the retainers for now to save a few bucks without running the chance of engine damage?

I noticed kelford has two different spring sets one seems to have retainers KVS63-BTK and one doesn't
KVS63-BK. Now does it really matter which one I go with or am I risking blowing an engine. There is a significant price difference.

I'm having a 2.3 built at the moment and had my springs and retainers swapped to GSC , when I get my car back I will have some supetech duals with retainers for sale , you would need the smaller diameter valve stems seals to work with these. PM me if you would have any interest.

OP kelford and GSC make some of the best cams for the 4G63, can't go wrong with either. GSC's have a little more duration at 274 but that's not a bad thing.

For the IX I would get anything else other than GSC S2's or the Kelford 272's. You can run both of these camshafts on the stock valve springs as long as you stay within the stock rev limit which is around 7500rpm.

I would not run a an S2 or 272 cam on stock springs. Especially not kelfords or cosworth. Just not worth the risk.

Wouldn't think of doing anything that drastic...
I just wanted to know if it was possible or not... lol

You're going to get a lot of different opinions on it. I know a few people personally who run both of these cams on stock springs. Is it 100% safe? No, but people do it often. IMO I would do springs. It's only a extra couple hundred bucks and the cams will be out anyways. Mind as well do it right the first time
