MAP Sensor

I'd like to hook up the optional MAP Sensor w/ my UTEC. Can I get it, and all the items required, from TurboXS?
Thanks,
Jeremy

a ready made sensor from TXS is not available as of yet.. However its a standard GM 3-bar sensor, pigtail for the sensor, and a 4 pin molex plug.. if you look elsewhere in the forum (or in the new 1.3 UTEC manual on their website) I contributed a bunch of information on the sensor, plugs and whatnot, and the required part #'s.. The sensor and its pigtail are available from gmpartsdirect and the molex plug and recepticles are available from www.mouser.com

You will need the part numbers, but you should be able to make up the cable and get it hooked up in under an hour.

Hey Jack,

I've read through the utec 1.3 manual several times but could not find any part numbers, just a mention of the GM 3bar sensor. I did some poking around and found this PN
"GM part number 16040749" which is from "1989 turbo Trans Am with the 3.8L turbocharged V6 engine"

Is that the correct part #??

Here is a link to the tech info on the GM sensor:

Yes, that is the old part # Don't forget the pigtail.. HOWEVER, the part has been replaced by

Second Gen Sensor (3-bar) # 12223861
Second Gen Pigtail # 15305891

and you can order the parts through www.gmpartsdirect.com

the square 4 pin molex connector can be salvaged from a computer power supply from a P4 machine, otherwise you can use

Molex 4 pin Recepticle housing # 39-01-2040
Molex receptacle crimps 18 to 24 AWG P/N 39-00-0039

from www.mouser.com

Both these companies are enthusiast friendly, and will sell small quantities. (you can also get the parts to make your own MAP switch from mouser)

and the link to the GM Map sensor reference for the pins is correct.. so you can use that as a reference to wire it.

Just take your time and pay attention to the connections, its real easy to set up.. calibration on the other hand is a little more difficult.. the sensor however is an invaluable tuning tool even if you don't use it for the closed loop boost.. and this same map sensor setup (and the wiring) can also be used as a standalone sensor with the TXS Tuner..

It wasn't as difficult as I thought, since I know at WOT my car is at 20PSI, I just did a log (Logger 4??) at WOT and averaged the MAP sensor digital reading.. Then used the calculation calculations (I took the MAP reading when the ignition is turned on but the engine not running).. Got me real close to what I wanted..

FYI, my car broke (Jammed up the shifter rails in the tranny, seems like low oil level in the tranny, but we'll see this week. Second time it was serviced for the same problem) so I'm not able to do much for the time being.
