First OPEN LOOP Fuel map..

Yep.. Here's what my map (Sorta, its rough so far) looks like running open loop fueling, still running open loop boost for this one.. This is a map for the v1.4b Firmware.. Notice I've had to ADD fuel? Thats because the background map is tuned for you stage-2 folks!! This tune is for 23psi boost spike with 21psi through redline.. (Some areas still need work) The timing is actually extracted from my stock ECU's desired timing, turns out its real close to a good timing curve on 93 octane that you'd find on a reflash.. No wonder my car ran so well stock..

Please be real careful if you extract the timing map to use on your car.. I'm running 94 octane gas and don't experience detonation.. HOWEVER my car is not very detonation prone...

If you want to combine sections of maps together, I recommend UCC-2 (Utec Control Center) Makes the job alot easier.. His app is coming along nicely..

I rely exclusively on four products now for logging and tuning..

data log lab www.dataloglab.com
BigBoogieman's Utec Control Center 2.0
MalibuJack's Digital Dashboard/Logger 0.9beta for Windows CE
OBD-II Scanmaster by Wladimir Gurskij http://www.wgsoft.de/ for the www.scantool.net OBDII Scanner

Of course the UTEC and TurboXS Tuner Pro, and Autometer EGT Gauge

So would I be able to adjust my fuel at idle with open loop?

The fuel map works in the same manner as it does now from that aspect, when the car is cold or started (before the O2 sensor warms up) it will run off the fuel map, once the car is warmed up slightly and the O2 sensor begins responding, it will switch to closed loop (ECU does it, not the UTEC) once its in closed loop, the car will always try maintain a 14.7 AFR until about 30% throttle...

This map is for 94/100 octane on my car, you WILL have to adjust this map for your current firmware since you will run extremely rich if you just plug it in..

The Boost map is ok, and the timing map is similar to the timings I've seen on other reflashes and ecu/piggyback products therefore it doesn't appear to be overly aggressive, however its very important that you monitor AFR's, EGT's and boost levels and refine any map to your particular modifications..

I have these mods, which require much more fuel at torque peak than other cars might..

1) Buschur 3" Downpipe
2) Buschur 3" Catalytic Converter
3) Buschur 3" Cat Back JDM Style exhaust
4) TurboXS UTEC with the ABC installed and stock restrictor removed
5) TurboXS TUNER Pro
6) Buschur Intercooler, lower Pipes
7) Buschur Upper Intercooler pipes w/ 1G DV Recirculated
8) Buschur MAF Pipe
9) K&N LARGE 4"x6" Cylindrical Filter, w/ modified 2G Adapter flange

I don't recall much else that is on the car at the moment since I'm still building and testing a bunch of components..

Hey, how does the utech control boost? Does it have its own boost actuator to replace the stock? Or does it control via the stock one. This is looking brighter and brighter for the evo owners. Good job Jack, your the greatest!!!! I think they should make you a moderator for the tech forum/utech!!!

UTEC Controls boost through the stock Solenoid, you can leave it as mitsubishi installed it, or you can add their ABC (Addon bleed valve) and remove the restrictor to the solenoid..

However, with this map, the timing at high RPM is optimized for around 20psi of boost, 19psi is best, I figure the timing would be too aggressive if boost was any higher than that towards redline.. I have the timing optimized at torque peak for about 21psi (I do frequently hit 23psi because of the inconsistency of the stock solenoid and weather conditions have a huge effect on it for that reason), you'd have to pull a degree or two from it if you run higher boost but I wouldn't recommend it without REALLY GOOD GAS, at least 100 octane..

FWIW after working with different boost levels, the best gains are going to be from timing changes, and not really high boost levels. But its always a compromize since the extra boost picks up torque..

I can only imagine the day my pistons decide to exit the block.. I'm very aggressive with tuning my car and obviously a bit reckless, I'd suggest you definitely use the info carefully and test things before you run them...

So correct me if Im wrong. The open loop fueling will allow us total control of the injectors without having to modify the MAF signal. What advantages will this have over the existing setup?

Injector scaling, No more fuel cut, can set your own rev limit, etc..

Interesting stuff.

Why aren't you using closed-loop boost control?

Haven't had the time to spend playing with it.. Remember, the 1.3 firmware had bugs that prevented closed loop from working right immediately after you save the map, you'd have to shut the car off, and start it again.. with the 1.4b firmware that bug is gone, but I had been focusing on testing its features in a pretty static environment.. after this weekend I'll be doing more aggressive things with it..

1) Custom boost solenoid and closed loop control
2) Blowthrough MAF and its calibration
3) Fuel Pump and Injectors (testing scaling)

What's the difference between closed-loop and open-loop boost control??

Open loop boost control is pure duty cycle driven and Closed loop adds a feedback variable which ends up giving you a consistent boost control.

Open Loop Fuel control allows you to take full control of the cars fuel functions. Which allows us to Raise your revlimit, remove fuelcut and give you consistent fueling. We make decisions, the stock ecu is no longer in control after you cross the OLF threshold. In the end you will have Absolute Timing and Absolute Fuel Control.

Thanks,
Jermaine~
