New cams? Old cams?

Over the last few months we have been testing and designing some new grinds for the evo 8's...and boy have we found some power...

With the New Year coming our...evo 8 customers will see 3 different profiles. S1, S2, and S3 cams.

The S1 Grinds are now finished. The S1 grind for the Evo 8...are designed with the stock turbo in mind. Stock Computer and Stock Valve Train.

The Evo 4-8 S1 cams are identical to our 272/264 setup. These cams work perfectly with the stock turbo so we aren’t changing them.
I'm confused. Are there new cam grinds for the VIII, or not? Or is S1 simply a new name for your old cam grinds? Please fill us in on your latest EVO 8 research.

And, point me to some dyno stats of the S1 cams on a VIII.

Thanks,
Jim

for now the old numbers are still good.

Stock turbo to GT3076 272/264 flattest tq curve and great area under the curve (I personally love this combo for road racers/street cars)
if you are a drag racer / road racer go to the 272/272 larger than stock turbo
if you’re a die hard drag racer / large turbo person then 280's are great… Stock turbo plan on loosing some below 3,500rpms but will produce 10-20whp more than the 272/272 and 272/264

S1, S2, S3 will be available in Mid feb for the evo 8.
S1 will be great for cars till 450whp on pump

S2 will require valve springs and are suited for 450+whp on pump up to around 700whp.. (Please understand that we have tested ALOT of springs and have suggestions, so please contact us as their are some to stay away from and some to use)

S3 is a custom grind.. feel like breaking 1000whp? or if you have a custom setup or just don't know, drop me a pm, email or phone call and i will help out.

dyno! dyno! dyno!

Still no dyno graphs on S1 cams in an EVO VIII?

Is anyone runnng the GSC 272/264 combo? I guess they have been out for a while, but are just now being renamed the S1.

Is everyone avoiding this combination for a reason? Fill me in please. If not, please post your dyno graphs.

Thanks...

Got em. Love em. Sorry, no dyno graphs. Made 2 passes at the local track New Years day, and with poor launch ran 12.69 @ 111.81 with 24 psi and a little race gas. Haven't maxed out turbo even. Think 11's are within reach, with better driving. Torquey as hell on the street too.

From the GSC quote above, I had understood the S1 cams for the VIII were a 272/264 set-up. However, the
EvoM review of the S1 cams indicate the S1 cams to be 268/266. Which is correct? Have the S1 cam specs changed recently? Or is a 268 considered to be a "272"?

(And I do realize that duration is not everything.)

I'm still looking for a dyno graph on a VIII S1 set-up. Anyone seen one?

Thanks,
Jim

a graph comparing or just a graph of the S1s?

the S1's are different than the 272/264 of old... in268 10.5, ex266 10.5 they are a revised lobe design, making more power in the mid range and bottom end and more on the top end than the 272/264.....

From the looks of the AFR, I'm guessing that must be untuned vs. tuned, as well as stock cams vs. GSC S1, correct?

How much of the 24hp and 10trq do you think was from the tune and how much from the cams?

Thanks for the dyno graph.

No, both are from s1 cams. Blue line is first run with just a rough base flash. Red line is final tune for the day. Don't pay much attention to AFR. That is from a wideband in the tailpipe, I also think it was malfunctioning/ intermittent. Tuning was done of a wideband in the downpipe. Just wanted to see the diff between the two locations. Gains between both plots is from tune solely.

OK, that sounds better. Thanks, FR.

So, I'm still looking for comparison dyno of (1) stock cams to S1, or (2) HKS 264/264 to S1. Anyone seen either of these?

Thanks,
Jim
