White Smoke only on WOT...

White Smoke only on WOT...

So i was going on an on-ramp the other day and i floored it in second gear, shifted to 3rd and looked in my rear view mirror and saw a big cloud of white smoke. I have a 16g turbo, intercooled by the way. On idle there is no smoke. No overheating problems. No brownish residue on the oil cap. Coolant looks nice and green still, not milky. So what could it be? I have a catch can installed with dual pcv valves coming from the valve cover and the breather on the crankcase. Could I have blown my oil seal on the turbo? This was a rather large cloud of smoke so im kinda worried as its never happened before. I will be doing a compression test this weekend also so if anyone has any tips on how to go about doing one it would help a lot. thanks in advance for the help!

i know under wot and idle i had white smoke because i had a kink on the return line but i fixed it asap. it might be different in your case. it might mean your burning more gas because black would be oil.

I thought black smoke was gas/fuel and blue was oil.

Are you water/oil cooling the turbo or just oil cooling?

White smoke is usually coolant. You may have lifted a head and poped the head gasket.

white black blue can be fuel or oil etc.

water and oil cooling the turbo... Damm if i blew a headgasket I guess I will just have to use the stock one that I have lying around. Should hold up okay right?

you car would run like **** if you blew the head gasket. Most likely you have a small leak in one of your seals on the turbo. I take it was a used turbo? Also are you using the proper restrictor for the turbo?

No it.s a brand new small 16g. I don.t have a restricter. I thought it has it.s own built in?

I have arp headrtuds. Aren.t they made not to stretch and thus preventing lifting of the head

I had this problem on my 98 Eclipse. Tons of white, nasty smelling smoke. I'm glad to know it was the headgasket and not something more serious. I might be having that problem with my OZ.

yes, they are built to be stronger then oem and help prevent head/block seperation under boost.. but if you have a bad gasket to begin with, that doesnt help much...

Maybe it.s time to go with the oem gasket then. I.m using a decomp gasket now so maxbe thats why. Does the oem gasket hold up well to high boost?

Try the RPW metal head gasket.
I believe it's around $80
