Need Some Help On A Decision
ok doing some research on different turbos and having troubles picking one out...goal right now is trying to get 350-400 hp with the 4g93 head...was looking at the t28s and also looking at the 16g...came across this website and there was a guy that made a good point about how one turbo at 25psi will produce the same hp at 15 psi on the other turbo and will not put much stress on the motor...yes understand that one is smaller faster spool compared to the other...but how much difference is there in spool...just curious...this will be my first turbo build as you can tell...just like to hear everyones opinion. thanks again

ball bearing will make up some for the spool , you will probably need to a get a 60-1, or a 30r .
on a quick spooling small turbo you numbers will look like this
1000 rpm 80hp
2000 rpm 100hp
3000 rpm 130hp
4000 rpm 180hp
5000 rpm 200hp
6000 rpm 230hp
on a big slow spooling turbo your numbers will look like this
1000 rpm 80hp
2000 rpm 90hp
3000 rpm 100hp
4000 rpm 140hp
5000 rpm 280hp
6000 rpm 320hp
7000 rpm 350hp
these are all estimates and you will need to make sure to build the engine internals either way...

if ur seriously going for 350-400hp.. depending on how much u wanna spend on building the motor.. just go ahead and get a gt35r or something equivlant that is capable of producing 600hp. u wont be pushing any of these turbos to there limits. so there max expected hp doesnt tell u much. 400 is a pretty high goal. u would definatelly see a big difference in powerbands with a gt28rs vs a gt35r or even a t3/to4e.
my old setup was a garrett 60 trim t3/to4e w/ .63 a/r... spool time was great, and turbo was "capable" of 500+hp.
im not a "big" turbo lover. i just think realistically.. it also depends on what you want the car for.. anything beyond 250hp in our cars on the street is unrealistic, driveability goes downhill very fast. if ur building it for drag racing purposing or soemthing similiar(that were not allowed to talk about) then u should really consider going much larger then just a gt28rs.
im using a Large t4 twinscrol thats equivalant to a big 35r turbo, not quite a true '40r' turbo, but when it comes to drag racing, it will make the power where i want it..But my car is a drag purpose only car(and highway pulls, lol)
pushing our cars to the limits is where u need to decide on what u really want.. if u want a simple setup, stick to a 16g, push the car a little on a built motor and just be happy with close to 300hp.. anything beyond that u would really need to get serious.

i was very happy for a street application with my garrett t3/t4. made great power up top.. if u want a simple setup that will make good street and drag power, aim for 300hp.. 14psi on a turbo like mine is actually of power to deal with in such a light car. do some pistons/rods/headstuds.. and u shouldnt run into any issues.

you can also get the 16g billet, at a local shop they made the switch from a gt35 into a 16g billet and it is crazy! of course it was done in an evo but with some serial internal work you are going to be doing some good numbers on hp

i think i've found the one im looking for... here it is a TD06H-20G.
the one in particular has this description...tell me what you think
the stock 17C compressor wheel is upgraded to a 44 lb/min 20G compressor wheel, the stock TD06 turbine wheel is upgraded to the larger TD06H high flow turbine wheel and the stock 8cm2 turbine housing is upgraded to a 14cm2 turbine housing.
i think this would be perfect
