Product Review: MBQuart DKE 116's
These are 6.5" speakers that replace the stock joints...This is my 4th pair of replacement speakers, and I've finally found the right match. First I tried some high end pioneer 6.5/.75 oversized joints. I wanted to try them because they were able to produce the lowest hz of any 6.5 on the market. O.K. speakers, but pretty weak punch, they actually were quieter than the stock paper joints. Next I tried some Power Akoustic $30 joints..horrible, had to re-solder the connections from the cone to the wire terminal out of the box. 2 weeks later they blew...Next I tried some of the new RF power series coaxial joints. Very good speakers, very customizable, since you can still remove the tweeters and they come with tweeter mounts..
but they couldn't cut it.
So I went to the German MBQuarts and these are very definetly the finest sounding, loudest, sturdiest speaker I may have ever owned. They have a range of 6.5 options, from coax to components with intense crossovers. I opted for the Coax, since my h/u (Kenwood mv50???) has crossovers for the front and rear stage speakers.
I'm matching the quarts up to the new RF T1 12" (600 RMS, and by most people's reviews, UNDERRATED)...just 1, too many noise tickets in the past.
Powering it, I have an MTX342 (342 is the actual rating...MTX and Rockford Fosgate are both dedicated to giving you accurate power ratings..unlike some other companies) amp... this is slightly over half the power these things will hold on a continuous basis, and it's cracking the fugg outta my windshield.
