best radar detector

Please allow me to direct your attention to RadarTest.com. This site is the best radar detector resource i know of on the web. They do very comprehensive testing and they already have their 2003 model test results posted. Personally I have a BEltronics Express 936. I am very happy with it. It has great sensitivity for all radar bands and works fairly well for laser. It sometimes goes nuts witht he false alarms, which is why i would recommend the beltronics vector 946, one step up from mine which boasts less false alarms. If you could afford it, would say escort 8500 all the way, but for us poor people, beltronics is an excellent option IMO.

i had V1 on my car for a week... maybe its the area i live in... cops dont use radar that much....they all use leaser..and when the warning comes up on the dector...its too late..
had my V1 on for a week...seein about 5 cops ..but they V1 didnt give me a warning at all... but my friends said if the cops have the radar off..there is no way V1 can gets it..
so probebly the cops in my area all use leaser so the radar doesnt have to be on all the time
so i jsut return it back to my friend....heh he was nice enough to let me test it for a week then pay him..but i return it back to him insted

For police that uses instant on radars, if you're alone on the road it will get you but if you're not and there are some other cars (shouldn't drive fast when there's loads of trafic), the police radar will comeup to scan the other cars and your detector will know it, shouldn't it?

I have had good luck with K 40 but it's also expensive. About $450.00, haven't got any tickets but in the book that comes with it there is a page that states if you get a speeding ticket they will pay for it.

laser also scatters, so if the cop is using a laser gun, you should be able to pick it up before he targets you.
the one problem with these things is if the cop doesn't have his gun on. if he is sitting there, he can flip it on when you get close and bam it's too late. but most cops are too lazy for this.
as far as laser is concerned, it is illegal for cops to use it in some states (it is in NJ). this is because it is not that accurate. you have to aim it precisely at the car, and even then they are inaccurate. if you get caught with a laser gun, chances are you may be able to get the ticket repealed. check your local laws.

I just checked the most high end passport
it's 1500$ installed
wow that's expensive.. But I think here in quebec since the ticket for getting caught with one is so high it's better to have a stealth one like this one (you can get an option of hidden led lights in your dash plus the scanners are in the bumper and trunk so nothing's on your dash)

I've owned both the Escort 8500, and the V1... All I can say, is that there's no contest between the 2.
What I mean is that the V1 is so much better!
First of all, the sensitivity to laser seems to be much better.
When a cop lasers somebody, it is a very focused beam that he targets on the car... there's very little scatter of the beam. The V1 seems to be far better at picking that up than the 8500 is.
Also the V1 had the directional arrows; they tell you which direction the signal is coming from. I thought that was a lame idea until I tried the thing out on my own. Trust me, I now could not live with any other radar detector that doesn't have the arrows.
Happy shopping!

Oh, and I almost forgot... The V1 can be sent back to the factory for full updating. That means if they come out with something new, you can send your old V1 back to the factory, and get it updated to new for a small fee.
