Best audio positioning

Hi guys, now that i have read a lot of threads trying to get some experience in the language, i´ve noticed you are really creative in the way you install your equipments, its amazing.

I think my question will result dumb, but im gonna make it anyway. I would like to install an audio system in my car, i have a 2007 lancer glx... i wouldnt like to have a box in my trunk (this is the dumb part), i would like to know, based on your expertise... is possible for me to have any disposition of subwoofers in the deck at the back of the rear seats? Im asking this because at first sight, it seems to be a really small place to install speakers.

More, i was thinking, can i have a good sound quality if i put (i was just wondering) two subwoofers in the back seat upper deck, two mid range speakers in the front door (like 6 1/2s) and maybe two tweeters anywere?... im not looking for a big audio system, but a nice interior sound one...

Everything you can tell guys will be really aprecciated, and yes... sorry about my english, i know it suc...

Regards, Carlo.

Yeah, it can be done. There are open-air subwoofers (don't need a box) that could be mounted to the rear deck, but I don't know how they are for sound quality. Make sure you put a layer or two of dynamat on that deck, too, 'cause it's going to rattle hard.

Be prepared to cut your rear deck with a nibbler. I would not go free air, that's the technical name, for a sub. It just doesn't sound the same. 8" kicker subs sound nice, but you need to build a baffle under the rear deck to support this. If you can manage to fit the sub amp under your driver seat, do it there, then run your wires back. Twisted pair 12-14 gauge only. Then do a nice set of components in the doors, use another small two channel, one with THD less than .09%.

Components: Focul, boston accoustic, polk momo.
Amps: Eclipse (either 1 nice 4 channel or two seperate 2channels) XA4000 is nice from them.
Subs: Two 8" kicker comps
Source unit: Eclipse (cd5000, AVN7000)

Then the big thing would be your source unit. Do you want nav? DVD player? Sat radio? MP3/WMA? Also, you'll need two nice sets of RCA's.

Total cost minus deck: ~$1500 USD with ~$3500 USD.

Any specific questions feel free to PM me

Hey im so glad i got some answers!

Well, first otter, actually i´vent heard that open-air subwoofers, but to tell you the truth, im not expecting really biiiiig sound and that stuff, just some nice deep bass and balanced ranges you know, not for competitions. I was expecting that someone will tell me something about the rattle and the dynamax kit (hard to find in my country ) so i will take that into consideration, tanks man.

MRcole, darn... so bigger holes are necessary isnt it? Your disposition is wonderfull, i like the idea a lot, BUT... what is exactly a baffle??? I really, but really would like to keep my trunk space free due to my beach travels. Are those baffles gonna take a lot of space? And well, not lcd screens or nav (you´re gonna laugh, but in my country we dont have so a nice system of maps as you is US, wich i love!, not even sat radio), just a nice HU with mp3 player

... then... why you ask if i can manage an amp under my driver seat?, is it bad? So in conclusion, let me see if i understand...
Do you think that i will need, two 8" subs with their amp/s...
two components in the doors (rear or front door?) with their amp...
what about high ranges? do you think i should have some tweeters?

Well, thanks a lot for you both! i appreciate a lot your help since i dont know a lot about audio settings! I will wait for your answers, Thanks a lot!

I don't know if you have seen this idea, it didn't end up where I thought it would, but one of the guys on here had the idea to make a fibreglass box that fit in the space below the dash, right behind the shifter console. Ever since I read his thread, I wanted to try it, but wasn't too confident with my glassing skills.... Maybe if you can do that, it may be a good bet to get some nice sound, and I think you may be able to get a 10" sub in there..... Maybe that could be another option for you. Search for (I think this was his handle) Black03OZ... This is the thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=116048

First off your english isn't that bad. As for the source Unit if you want something that just plays mp3 I would still go with an eclipse just put one in my girlfriend's truck (the cd1000 nice an cheap and still looks good). If you can do the rear deck why not put one 10" sub in the back in a small back and like MRCole said try to get ones that fit under your seats. well good luck

Oh yes SXTNYNR, i saw that configuration below the dash and its awesome! Really thinking in try it. Tx.

mrtrunks ill search for that cd1000, looks nice... when you say "put one 10" sub in the back in a small back, what are you exactly trying to said? a small box?

I was searching for that baffle settings, and i think now i have an idea of what it is, looks like a bit confusing, since i havent seen any pictures of that.

Thanks guys

Wow guys...thanks for remembering my old thread. Yep, I'm the idiot who decided to stuff a sub in his dash. I will say that it was quite difficult (lots of cutting and re-routing wires etc under the dash), but in my opinion, it was completely worth it. If there is anything I can do to help you out if you should decide to try this configuration, I'd be more than happy to do so. I will assure you that nothing larger than a 6 1/2" sub (JL6W0 is by far my favorite) will fit in the dash though. Please feel free to hit me up for "in progress" pictures or any info you want. Good luck!!

Thanks...I appreciate it.

Yes, I think two 6W0s in the rear deck should sound great. Just remember, these are true subwoofers, so they wouldn't play properly if they were simply dropped in the rear deck holes (running "free air"). You could build (or have built) two extremely small enclosures that you could seal off to the under-side of the rear deck. By extremely small I mean, these subs call for .075 cubic ft or less! Mine is in the .060 range, I'm running moderate power, and I think it sounds amazing! Please let me know if you decide to go this route...I would like to know how it turns out.

Well guys... all done... As i said in my post, i was looking to add some nice sound bass. As i was looking to have all my trunk space i was looking for a small sub... After searching a lot, all for me was too big (enclosures and sound), then theres this JL wich only needs .625 cubic feet (recomended by the dealer), so i tried... im still amazed with this bass, it was completely much more that than i was specting, so, i did it... powered with a dbdrive wow, i like it a lot, and it doesnt take a lot of space of my trunk... I was totally amazed with the precision of the sealed enclosure when i was playing jazz, clasics and precise bass tunes. Tx for all guys... next to do, the black03oz pattented dash 6"
Thanks to HI-FI crew and Boris (installer) who did a great job.

Nice! So do you have the amp mounted in any way or is it just sitting there under the seat?

Just wondering. Have you thought of velcro? I have friends that used to just have it laying around also. They used the velcro that has the sticky back and put a couple of strips on the amp (only used the none furry side) and then placed it on the floor. It velcro'd right to it and now it stays put on those hard turns and slams on the brakes. It seems to be working fine for them right now... whether the heat from the amp will loosen the adhesive or not I don't know. So if you want a to try a cheap fix like that, see if a strip of it will stick to your carpet. The only downfall would be that the sticky doesn't stick anymore and your left with that gooy sticker-like residue on your amp.
