XM radio

I have my XM radio unit in the spot where my ash tray was. I like it there, but I want to clean it up a little bit around there. First I want to not have to plug into the cigarette lighter for my power. Is there any other way to get power to the XM unit? Second question: What can I do to make it look more finished around the unit? I don't like the gap where the little light is where the ash tray was, and i would like it to just look a little cleaner. Any help would be much appreciated. Here are some pics so you can see what I'm talking about (sorry about quality- had to take pics w/ my phone)

This is a local shop in orlando on goldenrod. They are ussually pretty good for XM equipment, to fit around the cradle. I would recommend going to an aftermarket shop and get a custom fiberglass build for it

Thanks for the link. Does anyone else have any ideas other than fiberglassing? I thought about getting a mount that bolts to the passenger seat bracket bolt and holds the radio up on a flexible tube. Any comments? ideas?

It has the wired modulator to clean up the sound and also has a cig. lighter you can install behind the dash.

If you don't want to do it this way, you have to soldier wires to the end of your plug you have.

This is how I did mine, but I see you already relocated your radio to the lower cubby hole. To hide your XM radio power supply, I took out my center console and spliced a female cigarette lighter adapter into my cigarette lighter's wires, then plugged my XM radio's cigarette lighter power into it under the console. 10 minute job.

Personally I'd take the time to fibreglass the ash tray area. easiest way to make a clean install in that situation I think, plus you can do it yourself, to save a lot of coin. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but with a GPS unit, still haven't looked into it or anything, but I'd still try it to see. I don't want to lose the lighter tho, because it is how I usually charge my cell phone on a long ride.

That is how I used to have my Sirius radio setup. If I hadn't replaced my receiver with an Alpine, I would have done it Slovak's way too.

Thanks for all of the ideas. About the fibergalssing, I've never tried before, but I've read a few threads about doing sub and rear deck enclosures. How would I mold it? Could somebody give me some more details about fiberglassing it?

The ashtray is really a great spot.
I have the XM Roady-XT, but I got the attatchment that comes with the Roady2.
I affixed that inside the ashtray with the lid up, and it turned out Clean and Solid.
Run the wiring under the ashtray and console, then back up for the plug.
I just got a touchscreen monitor and was gonna have the XM go into that by using the XM Box, Aux. thing.
I decided keeping this would be simpler, less costly, and f* it, it looks cool anyway haha.
Im just gonna have it wired in tho, so I dont have to plug it in the lighter.
Check it out...

^^^ Nice! I was there too. My roommate was a model for Valvoline.
One of her other model friends (both named Stephanie) was smokin' too.
