hey, heres my two pennies.
i've had both.
the excelon sound nice even allthe way up it wont distort but doesnt go real loud.
the pioneer will go louder but eventually disorts.
depending on models the functions should be all the same.
right now i'm on the pioneer and liken it.but heres my complaint.
for some reason the graphic display changes contrast constantly. you cant turn it off or adjust it. this basically translates into a bright light that radiates from the dash while driving at night. then goes away............then comes back........then goes away.
and needless to say, its really annoying. just something you cant figure out till ya own it.
so there ya go. you've been warned!

speaker distortion comes from trying to make the speaker do more than it can, the pioneer has a lower wattage and will be louder as kenwood will need an amp to max them out

im biased toward pioneer. although i did install a kenwood for a friend and it was fine. i dont think it really matters much what brand you go with unless you are looking for certain features or compete with your system. other than that IMO its all the same. get what appeals to you and has the features, colors, inputs/outputs that you think you want and call it a day
