Why do you like the L7?

i have seen many people talking about this sub, in many threads but i want to know what does it have to be so popular(in particular to the north people), in my opinion they are expensive and not efficient. and in my country these kiker subs do not win competicions always the wineers are JL, PIONEER , MTX, ROCKFORD, DIGITAL DESIGNS ETC...... but L7 you never hear something about it here.

cuz it owns more than other subs do, SPL competitions its obviously not gonna win but that doesnt mean it doesnt sound as good, 1 kicker L7 = 1 1/2 other subs

its really nice with the right set up

Marketing... an L7 is no better than anything else out there. Most look at the cone area and think 100 sq inches is better than 78 sq inches (typical round sub). The truth is that they have problems that had to be overcome. There are lateral forces that would cause suspension failure so there are ribs in the corners of the surround to prevent damage. These forces would also want to flod the cone so it is braced by the cool design but this makes it mmuch heavier and less efficient. After all this you wind up with about 8cm of linear excursion and a round sub with less cone are can do much more.

The subs that Alma Gates had in her Bronco when it was Kicker were 4" Voice Coils with different suspensions and huge motor structures and it still wasn't up to the level of the competition in the SPL arena. If they were free I would use them but on my dime I would make a better choice.

Everyone can think what they want. You probably think they aren't made in China too...

By the way, square speakers aren't new either. Take apart a 30 year old tv, alarm clock or boom box and you'll probably find them. And I'm sure they sound phenominal. Sony had square components about 12 years ago too but abandoned it because there was little benefit, just higher risk of failure.

I can't wait for the square piston to hit, if Mitsubishi jumps on this now the Evo XII will be unbeatable!

I'd be glad to tell you, but mine didn't last long enough to actually enjoy it.

A coil wire snapped before I could even push it. Rated 800watts, I was feeding it 500. So misuse wasn't the deal.

500 watts clipping and unable to control the motion of the sub will cause this type of failure, not just over powering. The cone travelled too far and pulled the wire, a very common failure. The power handling specs are based completely on thermal limits at room temperature while sitting free air with a large home amp that doesn't clip and connected to a huge regulated power supply. These numbers mean nothing in the real world.
