They said it's too much because that amperage is higher than you'd want in a normal setup. I run 4 guage and a 50 amp in-line fuse I think... You can just get a smaller fuse for that setup.

Okay, I just remembered exactly what fuse you need to use! (thx Dad!) Use a fuse at the same amperage that all that electrical equipment totals. Basically, if you have two amps (like me)... (example) one amp has two (25A) fuses totaling 50 amps; the other has one fuse totaling 30 amps. Okay, then an 80 amp fuse would be ideal...

Feel free to critique my father's advice. Right? Wrong?

He is correct in adding up the fuses but then you want to split that number in half. Think about it. You want to stop that "bad" current from running to the amps. If you have it rated high, the fuse will never pop and you will have to "trust" your amp fuses to catch it. 50-60 amps is a good fuse to run all the time.

And ouch on the price of that kit.

True, to an extent...I personally still run something more closely related to the grand total vs half the total. I have a 50A and a 25A combined and have a 75A inline fuse; I've never had an issue.

Enjoy your system!
