amp cutting out

by awg I'm guessing you mean amp wire gauge? if so, I do believe it's 8 gauge...I think I'll be replacing the subs, seeing as how my amp could still work fine if I wire everything correctly and my subs are DVC.

not exactly what awg stands for, but sure sounds good!! hehehe. you will probably be fine with 8awg, but if you get a bigger amp or a second amp, then you should upgrade to 4awg. also chck the temp. of your wire after a long time playing your stereo to see if it's hot. if it is then you should upgrade to 4awg

I dont mean to interupt but is the power wire and the ground wire the same size.
From what I was told if you have a 4 guage power wire then you need a 4 guage ground. Mine has a 8 guage ground which might explain why the amp clips at high volume.
OT, someone told me that if you have dual voice coils and and you only use one of them that it can ruin the speaker, is this true?

amp cutting out
First of all i want to say hello to all the members here since i just joined the forum today. I also wanted to let the guy with the sound storm know that i had a sound storm 350.2 amplifier and had nothing but problems with it overheating and shutting down;even after being given a new one afterward and that one did the same thing and i knew mine wasnt hooked up wrong because it was professionally installed. I personally tried this amp because they were a new company and were cheap but needless to say i will never buy soundstorm products again.

All you need is a capacitor. I took electronics so i have seen this before. Electricity has 2 properties it can be capacitive or inductive. Usually every device runs inductive this means that the device is drawing a current to power the device but also a current that is lost do to resistance of the wire the amp the speakers but also the opposition on the change of current caused but the speaker coils. This technical stuff just means that your set up is drawing to much current because the equipment us are using has a bad efficiency or to be technical it is inductive. To correct the problem you use a capacitor because when you add a capacitor you are completing a process called power correction. A capacitor charges in 5 seconds and has the property of opposing a change in voltage. This means that if your speaker coil is opposing a change in current and your line capacitor is opposing a change in voltage your system will remain more constant. The inductance and capacitance directly opose each other so as soon as you coil draws a surge of current the capacitor will discharge a stored charge to balance the amount of current being drawn taking all the stress of the cars electical system making the lights not dim. When the surge of current is gone the capacitor recharges using the cars current drawn by the stereo normally. If that makes any sense????????? JUst get a capacitor it sounds like you need about a 1 Farad capacitor..

yes, this started 3 months ago, and I came to the conclusion that it was the impedence, and since one of my subs is pretty much fried, the impedence is back to normal (only operating one sub) and the problem went away.

i cant help you but i can tell you i have similiar problem. I drive an Evo, i have a crappy setup, 600w and 2 12's kickers comp and my **** cuts out once in awhile, it seems when i WOT on the car, in any case, i do not know what the hell the problem is but i've turned the power? (i think bass knob on the amp) to about half way and turned up the HPF and LPF up a little, dose anyone think that might help my problem?

i found my problem, the ground wire was loose. BTW i did not install this crap myself, it was done at BEST BUY, and that was the third time i had to take it back there, so my advice, do not go to BEST BUY
