Question amp says "over current"

sony xplod amp is getting power, but not putting anything out to my subs. Amp light that says "over current" is lit up.

can anyone explain what this means, and what I have to do to fix it?????

It recently got FRIGGEN cold up her (-25 C) and it started then...

I looked breifly and everything looks like its connected fine, and I really don't want to poke around my trunk anymore in the cold unless I know what I'm looking for.

Help!

i would tell you to double check everything, especially the ground connection. if it is getting power that obviously means you hooked it up correctly, but just check your fuses, and connections. check the amp fuses also! let me know what happens.

I know that I=V/R (Current= Voltage/ Resistance). So if your amp says that you are getting too much current, try to reduce the voltage or increase the resistance. However I have no idea how to do this . Just thought i would share some knowledge i gained in physics 101 .

I checked all the connections and they're fine. The ground is fine and so are all the fuses.. I didn't inspect the 12v line but if I had to guess there was a problem with the wiring thats where I'd say it would be. Its just so wierd that this happend all of a sudden. It was working fine for 5 months and now nothing.

I'm going to take the amp itself in tommorow to get checked...
I think thats where the problem lies.

now I don't feel like such a sucker for getting the extended warranty

I would say amp is fried. I got a sony xplode amp for fun one day to see how long it would last running 2 ohms. I fried it in two weeks. Returned it, and got money back. As an installer myself, I have witnessed many of these amps being fried. They don't hold up very well to heat. I would assume with it getting cold over where your at, plus your amp heating up, your amp has gotten best of both worlds, and fried because of overheating and the added moisture inside because of weather didn't help. The overcurrent light by the way should go off on that amp after she cools down. If not, unhook all your subs from amp, and turn it back on. If light is still on, amps screwed.

don't be mad, Sony has a 50% problem rate on that amp with that exact problem, I deal with it consistenly
it's just a bad circuit
call around and ask people who had fix sony amp, labor wise shouldn't be over 1/2 hr. and the circuit is only like $5 top
so don't pay them over $40 i say

Yeah, you can always get it fixed cheap by somebody. Regardless, those amps are not very strong at all. I would get it fixed, then sell it to a buddy for cheap (of course tell them it sucks, but it works.) Then buy a better amp.
