Need Help with fuse tap issue
Hello All,
I have a 2008 lancer GTS and i'm doing a direct wire install (radar detector) with the add-a-circuit fuse tap.
I'm looking for which fuse will give me power when the car is on and cuts power once I shut off the car.
It needs to be 10amp or 15amp
I have already tried the radio, cig lighter, accessories, and aux plug fuses however
when I shut the car off the associated jacks go off but not the radar detector.
(example if I have something plugged into the cig lighter when using the cig lighter fuse tap, they are both on when the car runs, however when I shut the car off the device in the cig lighter goes off but not the radar detector)
It is grounded properly on the bolt by the fuse box.
The radar is the escort 9500ix and there is no battery storage capability,
Any ideas on what's going on, am I doing something wrong.

I know this doesn't really help with your direct issue, however i was lazy and ran my amp remote wire to the cig lighter 15 amp fuse. My amp turns of when my car goes off. So maybe the direct issue is with the rader detector. Hope that helps narrow it down alittle.

since this is an old thread... i am not sure how the electrical system is wired and actuated. It sounds like the fuse box is hot all the time but each componet is triggered by the ground side connection. i originally was going to say flip the add a circuit in the fuse socket so the power side lug will be on the non powered side but if the fuse box is hot always then it defeats the purpose.

whether the circuit is closed or not, if the device that is piggy backed off that fuse has its own ground it will get power, regardless of its orientation, if any one connection to the fuse was hot... but that depends on if it's always energized, or is energized by ignition...the cigarette lighter should be an ignition initiated 12v source, so i think djblinx was on the right track with his/her post...something that is always energized is power locks.
