cd deck has a built in crossover, what are the settins for?
So I have an alpine cda-7894 cd/mp3 player. after having it for over a year, I noticed it has a setting where I can set the built in crossover. I dont have the factory manual anymore so I thought id ask.
I can set:
HPF FLAT
HPF 80 HZ
HPF 120 HZ
HPF 160 HZ
Whats the difference between the 4 settings?

ive got an apline type-r component system (4 - 6.5" speakers and 4 - 2" tweeters) being powered by the deck .. and two 10" apline type-r subs being powered by a large amp ... the amp runs from a cap.
i listen to all kinds of music (excluding country) .. sometimes i like bass, sometimes i like the clarity, which is one reason I am happy with my system as I can do either tune rather easily. i dont have subs to rattle my *** or make the neighbors listen to it .. i just like to hear the bass being filled in.
I just dont really "hear" a difference between the different settings for the built in crossover. Im kinda audio dumb .. does the Xover affect the component system, or the subs, or both? what do the different "HZ" ratings stand for, in a XoveR?

The higher the hz the higher the frequency (highs), the lower the hz the lower the frequency (bass). Bass is considered any frequencies from 1hz to around 100hz... mids from 120hz to 1khz and highs from 1.5khz and up. (those are my figures, it may vary from person to person).
HPF FLAT = all your speakers play all the frequencies
HPF 80 HZ = your interior speakers play 80hz and up (eliminates sound lower than 80hz)
HPF 120 HZ = your interior speakers play 120hz and up (eliminates sound lower than 120hz)
HPF 160 HZ = your interior speakers play 160hz and up (eliminates sound lower than 160hz)
LPF does the opposite, eliminates any sounds higher than the set frequency.

Works fine for me. I can download it and email it to you if you need it, digdat.
Otherwise, go to alpine's site, click on tech center, click on consumer site, and type cda-7894 in the search bar at the top. It'll pull up only 2 results, one of which is the manual.
Good luck.

so the manual says:
HPF (Setting the High Pass Filter):
FLAT (OFF) ↔ 80Hz ↔ 120Hz ↔160Hz
Outputs all frequencies higher than that selected
according to your preference.
2. LPF(Setting the Low Pass Filter):
FLAT (OFF) ↔ 80Hz ↔ 120Hz ↔160Hz
Outputs all frequencies lower than that selected
according to your preference.
(Only available when using the subwoofer output from
this unit.)
NOTES
• If no buttons are pressed within 5 seconds, the setup menu
returns to the normal audio display.
• These functions are inoperative when an external, Ai-NET
processor is connected.
• If HPF, LPF, Bass Control and Treble Control are all set to
ON, depending on the Bass Control and Treble Control
settings, you may not be able to reinforce the sound effect.
• Except when the HPF and LPF is turned OFF, the subwoofer
is in monaural mode.
• When the subwoofer is set to OFF, LPF mode and change of
phase does not work.
What does this mean, "• Except when the HPF and LPF is turned OFF, the subwoofer
is in monaural mode."
whats monaural?
