reversed polaritys? maybe the xtant cant handle the 300 watts, or did you bridge the wires?

Kids kids kids.... WATCH YOUR GAINS.

I got $10 that says this woofer was cooked by distortion.

Yeah, I'll second that... It's obvious that a 1000W amp can blow a 300W speaker, but a 300W amp can blow a 1000W speaker too, if you screw with it just enough. Aim for good sound with proper gains, etc and you're a lot better off.

It's all about gain/crossover/watching distorion - I've got 1500W (RMS) to a JL 10W3V2 (rated about 250W RMS)......

Just be smart..

you prob underpowered it xtants are power hungry 300watts is nothing for them and you prob didnt have amp tuned right prob sounded loud to you but was mass distortion

If you remember nothing else remember this Not enough power ( distortion) will blow a speaker alot quicker then too much power.

Do not forget about Impedence...If your subs are wired wrong to the amp. If you put the wrong load on the amp...something is going to give. My guess is the amp was getting the wrong load...it sounded fine in the beginning, but as time goes on the amp will get weaker and weaker causing more distortion. More distortion = bad news! Plus, it could be the box too. Too small of a box can cause it to blow. Just the same with too big of a box! Subs need the right amount of air flow. They need the space to cool the voice coils!

Just my two cents!

watch your gains. the biggest culprit and reason that most speakers fail is because
A: there was not enough power to control the movement of the speaker
B: the amp was over worked (gains ) and decided to send raw current the subs way
C: the amp has so much power that it melted the subs voice coil

make sure your wires are correct for the impedance you want if you put them all in parallel and only have 1 ohm of resistance there will be a lot more current through the sub than if you have 4 ohms of resistance. watch gains like said and distortion is the main sub killer so make sure your system is clean and your not splicing wires all over etc.
