I put my DEH-7700MP in this past Friday and I'm loving it. I plan to add my JL 300/4 and a Basslink and call it a day.

Eclipse by far! Clean and pure sound w/o gimmicks!

I got 8554 or something w/ 8v preout and no internal amp.

Can you say clean? How do I know this, cuz I tried Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood and it's so so night and day. Save your money and come to what few of us already know!!!

Mahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, did I say Clean...

I voted Sony for a few reasons.
1 Affordability
2 Ease of use
3 Sound quality (DSO and 7-band EQ)
4 You can get a Sony deck and a line driver for your 8volt outs for less than a cheep Eclipse
5 Good warranty
6 I have an all Sony specialty series set-up in my car. It's better sounding and longer lasting than my Eclipse or Alpine.
7 I hate Kenwood, JVC, and Pioneer

Pioneer Premier... great balance of price, features and looks. I've owned two Premier models (currently have DEH-P8MP) and they have worked flawlessly.

Alpine for sheer reliability and performance... although i don't like the look of them that much.

I went with Sony. Lots of Sony is crap, but they make (or used to make) some of the best sounding decks.

Funny how some of the best SQ lines just disappeared over the last few years.

I am an Alpine fan, very good head units. I used to have a Sony and when I installed my Alpine it was like I had a whole new system!! I have heard very good things about Eclipse as well, but have not owned one. So I cannot speak from experience, but the few that have Eclipse Hu's on here seem to think they are excellent. Maybe I will try that next time im in the market for a hu.

I've owned alpine, Clarion, JVC, and pioneer

im favoring Alpine. while pioneer's premier series is a great head unit, alpine is just the better way to go in terms of being able to control the sound and is a decent enough price for what you get.

Clarion and JVC not my favorites, it seemed like the only thing i had control over was volume

I do technical support for Crutchfield Corp. and by experience I have noticed that the Panasonic and Pioneer are by far the most dependable units with less than %1 return rate.
I own the Panasonic 7410 and love it with 3 sets of 5 volt preamp outputs and a 7 band equalizer it is really hard to beat. I used to be an alpine fan but with this years new units I am far from impressed. The clarion is another HU that holds up well.

What about Audiobahn? I just installed a headunit from them, and it a whole lot better than the Kenwood headunit that it replaced.

I had an alpine back when tape cassettes were still used, then I had a sony cd head unit was OK! then I got a clarion DR6000z series was good but I wanted better so now I have the old school DR9000z series professional audio edition used to cost like 1300 dollars but I got it for $300 as a store demo model!!! Controles are simple and sound is full and warm and wide!

Man, everyone loves Alpine. From what I could tell when I was comparing decks, Alpine decks are just louder, even though their amp isn't really any higher wattage than others. I picked the Pioneer DEH-P3600 because the price was reasonable, the display was wonderful (didn't get the OLED one, but still nice), the sound quality is great and the depth of equalizer settings is absolutely incredible. Plus it matches my equally sweet Pioneer speakers. I definately recommend their decks above any others

built in head unit eqs are not good with high power systems esp when you have no pre amp! they tend to color the sound and ad harmonic distortion due to over simplified components
