ROAD/RACE Piggyback VERSION 2
#751
I spoke to Brian from RRM earlier and he stated that there have been a few 2004’s that have had this same problem and that there was a fix for them. I’ve had several problems since I’ve received it, such as a lumpy idle and now a CEL, even after checking the connections several times, using different attachment methods, and repeating the learning process three times. I have also driven the car for about 200 miles with hopes that the problems would subside but I have had no success.
I have high hopes that RRM will help me out in making the piggyback fully functional!
Box was sent to RRM today

Hi - sorry to revive this old thread. I used the search function and thought this would probably be the best place to ask this question...
I'm considering buying the rrm piggyback, but my 02 oz has 105k miles on it. Do you think the high miles + piggyback will significantly reduce my engine wear/life? The reason I ask is because my friend said, "A chip on a motor with 100k+ sounds risky... like you might blow a head gasket or something." Just wondering what you guys thought.
Any advice is appreciated - Thanks in advance.

But yes, as the fella above says, ecuflash can also do the same things (and so much more). It's less user friendly, than a piggy, but more precise....much more scalable and has a lot more userbase than the piggy. Just about every evo out there is running the tephra rom, and it's wicked developed....everything from boost control to launch maps to speed density is within your grasp...
It sounds like you haven't done much (or any) research though, so don't buy anything until you do a lot more reading/learning and thinking about your goals for the car. If you just want a hair more power...you probably aren't going to get it. Lancers aren't like hondas where you just magically put an intake/exhaust on and get 20 hp. The lancer flows really well stock, not a ton of improvement outside of turboing.

There is no risky issue with a piggy. It is a device that simply manages fuel. The good thing is that he Lancer can stand a serious dose of remapping fuel. Piggy is a simple 3 wires "T" in and 2 attached. You will notice the gains from it and even improved mileage. It is pretuned, but also comes with software if you want to custom tune. Very cool for most of the guys out there. Mileage on the car is a NON ISSUE. Thanks

Totally agree, this guy knows. Its easy, pretuned, and idiot proof. With ecuflash you can grenade your engine easier than you might believe. Oh...and no sideband required. Add tactrix dabble plus sideband and piggy is cheaper.

Ye if you are tuning and do not have a wideband etc..... Do not waste your time or risk your engine!! WE use Zeitronix all the time. Since then, tuning is a breeze and tune twice as well in half the time! Go piggy if you need to ask. You are a candidate for sure.

I saw original post. 4B10s are not a U.S. /Canada Model but guys from other countries are buying the 4B11 piggyback for the 4B10 and doing fine. To be sure get the 4B11 Timing controller though. IT will plug right in on the 4b10 and work fantastic. That is the sure way to ROCK power on the 4B10s. TC is the best best for these engines in Asia and Europe etc...
