Ignition Timing

I own mirage with 4g94 while using 4g93 ecu. Everybody tells me that me ignition timing is off. How can I find out if my ignition timing is off? And has anubody used Apexi ITC to control the timing?

Stcok should be roughly 5 degrees +-3. To verify your timing is correct you will need a proper timing light. I'm not to familliar with the ITC, however I do know that an EDIS4 coupled with megasquirt is a nice easy combo for tuning your ignition.

Thanks for your help Phil. I'm searching through the web and I can't find no info on EDIS4 (What is it? How much?) I'm clueless.

Is megasquirt fuel controller? If I would buy EDIS4 (whatever it is), do I need megasquirt?

EDIS4 is just a ford wasted spark ignition system. You need MS2, or Ms1/Extra to run edis4. Its an extremely flexible, not to mention cheap unit (figure 30 for the controller, $50 for the vr sensor+36-1 trigger wheel, and ?$ for whichever coilpack you choose to use) however you can also use the stock coilpacks

As far as i know, I'm the first guy to try and retrofit this igntion system on our engines. Works great, but its a bit of a custom job(you need to find/make a trigger wheel and mount it to the crankshaft pulley, then make a braket for the vr sensor). Wiring is extremely easy, only 2 wires to MS,a 12v feed, and wiring to setup your coils(2 more wires).

Using this ignition system I'm trying to use the 1G dsm ignition setup w/ power transistors driven by MS(MS2 has built in coil drivers, able to fire a wide variety of coilpacks directly). Cheap and effective...

You can usually find all the components at the wreckers (91-95 1.9 escort I believe), if not, check ebay(where I got mine). The entire setup shouldnt run your over $100+coilpacks/wires($45 for the 1G setup).

Great info man. I'll try that within the month. Did you go on dyno after that? What kind of gains are we talking about?

I havn't hit the dyno yet. Still trying to get a nice smooth idle/cruise conditions w/ the Evo 550's. Should be able to open her up in the coming month or so. $$$ permitting.

You wont see "gains" from using this type of setup. You will have an easier time tuning your upper Kpa/RPM ranges, see less misfires in boost, and have an overall smoother, larger powerband.

I've read in some of your other posts that your N/A correct? In that case you should be fine with the stock coilpacks, whichever ignition route you take. I'm using the stock packs till 9psi. The 1g upgrade is only beneficial once into higher boost levels.
