Raising the bar (the red one)

i have been thinking a lot lately how low our rev limiter is set stock to 6083 on our lancers and have recently bumped it up to 6564 or somewhere close and havent had any valve float problems and honestly its pretty nuts.

i was wondering what supporting mods i would need to have to support up to evo rev limit or somewhere close. i dont want to go much past 7k.

my ideas:

valve springs/lifters
camshaft to make power at higer rpm
headstuds?

i think it is set very low from the factory and the 6500 im running now is lightly pushing it.

please feed me your ideas! i have an 05 lancer turbo with fuel to support it already pushing 14psi

The only other thing I can think of is our oil pump. 02-Lancer-es is the only other one who can tell us about oil pressure at that range but he doesnt have an oil pressure gauge.

What we need to know is if our pump is adequate enough at those RPMs.

You'd want basically all the supporting mods, intake manifold, TB, etc., head work, custom or RPW cam (I don't know of any US made cam that is properly aggressive), and valvetrain mods. However, unless you're still making power up there, it might be a waste of time. It all depends on how you tune it and the mods you have.

I mean 02 lancer says he's still making power and he's at 10psi. But I have to give it to him. He has one hell of a tune...

You'll need to open up the intake side, or at least it's a good idea. No point in doing headwork and cams when you're trying to suck in air through the small TB and IM.

I bumped mine up to 6400. Like amby says though really no point if your not making power up there. My torque drops off pretty rapidly after peak torque (about 4500). My Hp rises steadily until around 5500 then flattens out. Only reason I upped mine was so I could hit 60 in 2nd to help my 0-60 times lol.

Different engine, different design. A ported IM and TB aren't that hard to install.

haha yeah not hard to install i just feel that im not gonna be getting much for how much i spend. $600 for those 2 parts im just not convinced its worth it. and also with the higher rev limit i can now get past 150mph

The gains won't be huge, that's for sure. If you want to continue upping the rev limiter though, they'll be needed to make full use of a ported head, cam, etc. If you do just one of those things, you won't be happy with the gains. Altogether though, they should be good.

hmm yeah well if i do do it im probly gonna buy from rpw since their prices are a lot less ridiculous then rrm. but i mean a ported head from rrm you have to drop $1500 then u get 500 back but that just seems like a little much to me. really not worth it for a fwd
