hot day, lumpy idle/stall please help.
Hi
Hot day here today (35c, 105f i think) and when i pull up at lights my idle becomes lumpy, drops down to 300 or so rpm, then after a few seconds bounces up to 1500ish, then back down to 700 and idles perfectly. I took it to the dealer and they suggested it could be a carbon deposit in the throttle body, due to the recircylating nature of the intake. The car is completely stock and still in warranty however they wont cover it and want $200 to attempt to fix this but wont gurantee it will solve the problem.
Does anyone else have any ideas of things i could check ?
This hasnt just started happening either, ive noticed it the last year or so but its not been as hot as it is today.

Hrm.
Just took it for a 'gentle' drive (didnt go over 3000rpm) and it was fine.
Would the intake temp being too high (caused by the outside temp + harder driving increasing temp in the engine bay) cause a lumpy idle/stall ? Tempted to grab one of those OBDII -> laptop scanners so i can get a better idea of whats going on, what do you guys think ?

Yes, excess heat can definitely cause that lumpy idle. Perhaps there was detonation occuring due to seriously increased heat. The basic issue though is that your dealership is OBLIGATED to fix this for you. Don't strain yourself trying to fix it on your own. That's their problem.

restrictor plate looks ok , airfilter is clean.
hobie: i know what you mean, but theres very little in the way of options if they just flatout refuse to look at it under warranty. If i can workout what is wrong or disprove what they suggest is wrong (the carbon buildup) then i've got some ammo against them.

Climb the ladder, man. Mitsubishi's been pushing their "best backed cars" bull****, and I've heard as many complaints in the the past few months as I did when the Evo was first released.

looks like another 35c day today, any other suggestions for things to look for ?
An interesting point - my friend with the same car also stalled at lights yesterday, so it seems its not specific to my car. He has CAI/exhaust.
