you know what, i was wondering about the honeycomb. When i had my chevy s-10, i "descreened " the intake by taking out the honeycomb. It was a very common mod cause the corvette had a similar MAS and the only thing was that they didn't have a honeycomb. the only thing i noticed after was that i had better flow. and more power!
So i am wondering if anyone here does the same thing?
anyway, to answer the question, i get about 13/14 mpg, that's worse than my v6 pushrod 4.3l truck, i think you might be on the throttle a little more w/ the filter. when i changed to the hks, my SES light came on, and i had to reset it(unplug battery), so if your ses light did not come on, i don't think that you will have any real problems. you are probably losing milage by trying to see if the filter made any difference.

All GM's hotwire MAF's do have honeycomb since I have a 3.5 inch MAF from a LS1. The Z06 has one slightly bigger.
You must have seen either Nissan's hotwire MAF or Linginfelter's (sp) upgraded MAF for GM. I think Ford doesn't have a honeycomb either.
The honeycomb is there to straighten the airflow, so your sensor(s) can read it w/o turbulence at idle.
