Oxygen Sensor

I am attempting to install my header and downpipe. Can anyone tell me how to remove the oxygen sensor from the exhaust manifold.. If i can get this off I will do the install. Seems like a piece of cake to do.

Thanks

i would rent an oxygen sensor socket from autozone. Or you can try an open ended wrench but i stripped the hell out of the one on my cat doing that so i wouldnt recoment that.

What i really need to know is how to remove the wire cap to the sensor. Does it twist off or something to that extent.

no thats why you need a O2 sensor socket. Its a deep socket with a slit in ti for the wire. Or like i said before an open ended wrench

disconnect it (plastic clip), get a o2 socket wrench (just buy one they are cheap), sit it to the side, take off your exhaust manifold, now work backwards... if you have the rrm header, it is easier if you put it on off the car then reconnect it after you have the header installed

I've always taken off the exhaust manifold BEFORE taking the 02 sensor out. This way, it's easier to work with. Also, I didnt get a special socket. Just used an adjustable wrench.

^ i tried that but i rounded the hell out of the O2 sensor. I have to use a locking wrench and a pipe to get it off.

A new oxygen sensor from www.oxygensensors.com cost less than 100 dollars with free shipping. In my evo, with my megan exhaust manifold, there was no way a regular oxygen sensor socket would fit with a ratchet AND have room to turn. I had to use a short adjustable wrench to get it out. Even a standard 7/8 wrench was too long and had no room to turn. In retrospect I should have gotten a crows foot oxygen sensor socket. With a crows foot oxygen sensor socket you could probably take it off in a few minutes. Depending on how much yours is rounded, a crows foot oxygen sensor socket may have enough bite to take it out. Otherwise you'll probably have to remove the whole exhaust manifold and use some vice grips to get it out.

If your manifold is anything like my megan in my evo. You will need a crows foot oxygen sensor socket. I have a deep socket one with the slit and it does not have enough clearance for my exhaust manifold.

Grind the sides and use a Crescent wrench?
