Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the new Mobile One Advanced synthetic oil that states 15,000 or one year before break down. I have an oil change coming up in about 800 miles and will be going fully synthetic from here out. Currently using a synthetic blend as the transition oil. Also while we're talkin' oil; what is a decent filter?

It has been said that you should change regular oil every 3k miles and synthetic every 6k miles. Whenever I ask someone what is the truth they always say it doesn't matter just change it 3k miles.

That Mobil 1 stuff just came out. So I doubt you'll get any 15k reviews...

If you want, try it. Just make sure you monitor your oil levels during the year it's in there.

Personally, I'm sticking to regular oil. I feel safer.

And remember that no matter what your car burns out some oil. 15k miles without chaning it ............ i don't think this would work for me.

It says without chaning, didn't say anything about not needing to fill some

Well traditional synthetic is 5-6000 depending on the brand and such. But changing oil every 3000 miles no matter the type of oil is insane. You are wasting you money on synthetic if you are chaning it every 3000. With most synthetic I have heard 5000 or 5 months.

Anyway away from that, i don't want this thread to turn into another oil changing debate thread. I would like to keep all comments and information on the new Mobile One Advanced synthetic oil. I don't see it far fetched 15k miles since some newer generation BMWE36s change there's between 15000 to 30000 miles. I am just lookin the save money in the long run here.

My 15K will be up before the year end so I don't have to worry about that. I put about 18k a year on the car. Mostly all highway.

sure fill a little here and there is fine, it comes in a 5Qt container and we only use about 4. so there will be plenty to add any down the road.

pffttt.. 15k mile oil. Find me a good filter that will hold up that long and still be able to filter at 5 to 10 microns.

I was just thinking maybe not the whole 15k just maybe test it and go about 10-12k drain it and look at it? At that point a decent filter K&N or other simaler filter should hold up that long. They are used on Synthetic and changed every other Oil change. which would equal about 10k miles Comments?

Ya.. the only thing I can find is the FRAM X2 filter that is good for 7000 miles. But I don't know about those things. I'll just stick with my current filter and regular oil. Works awesome for me.

Yeah I am just looking to save a little money, and since i driver 300-400 miles a week I have to change the oil every 2 months. Sowhen i went to check prices at Wal-Mart on Mobile One Sny. I saw the Advanced Syn and thought it sounded to good to be true. So I will more than likely stick with regular Mobile One Syn. and change it every 5-6k.

I like the Mobile 1 Synthetic.. best oil in my opinion. I tried the royal purple stuff.. didn't notice a difference. But with Mobile 1, smoother than ever.
edit: I am talking about the Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W-30.. not the 15k mile oil.

do a search for "oil test" or somethign like that... there's a long term study that's being done by this guy who drives his corvette pretty hard. He's been testing the oil every month or 1000 miles (which ever comes first) to see how much cleaning and lubricating power it has left. He has to change the filters but basically, the lab tests are showing that Mobil 1 synthetic and Royla purple (I think) both have effective lives above 18000 miles.

The change your oil at 3K story is a myth perpetuated by the oil industry and they've even admitted it. In the late 70's or early 80's documents were "released" showing that industry leaders were trying to make as much money as they could- and motor oil has a decent profit margin. Their own tests showed that oil was effective for lubrication and removing deposits into the 7000 mile range.
how often do I change my oil? Every head swap or 4500 miles- whichever comes first
