Nitrous?

As per my last thread, I'm planning on installing a SRI on my OZ (possibly a hood scoop). Another thing I was curious about adding on, is a very small nitrous kit, capable of adding a mere 35 hp. A boost ratio small enough to where I wouldn't have to replace the stock engine internals w/ pricey performance ones to withstand the new strain.

Is it worth it?

Or are there other, simpler, and/or cheaper ways to attain hp?-if so, what?

based on what i've seen in various threads...there isn't really a cheap way to attain gobs of power. As you might see on the forum, there are a number of tc/sc lancers putting down great numbers but for the most of us..forced induction is expencive. The N/A route for the 4g94 will require a good amount of $$$ to attain gobs of power too. These two paths would be much more benefitial in the long(power always available, less risk) run but u must remember paitience is a virtue. SAVE YOUR $$$!!

Risks associated with nitrous aren't worth it IMHO. I dont know much about nitrous myself but even if you can run it with stock internals reliably...won't refilling catch up to you later? I have no clue of the costs but yeah...i ono...

n20 is a great idea, and while you're at it, torch or cut your springs.

ok, the lancer, unlike other cars, takes lots of mods to pull out a little bit of power. maybe a couple hp for exhaust, a couple more from intake, as opposed to hondas which gain much more from those simple mods. from what i've read on the site, everyone with nitrous has blown up, so to use an amount small enough to not blow up might not be worth it. as said before, the best way to gain a large amount of power quickly is super/turbo charged. but very expensive. both kits cost roughly the same but turbo gets more power with more maintenance, but supercharged came out less power but less maintenance i think.

drew, is there really any reason to be an a$$

nitrous is not a safe route in my opinion. it can be if you plan on spending the cash but that does not seem to be what you are looking for. you are better off with a turbo or supercharger. there are a couple guys on here who have used n2o on the 4g94 and been able to pull it off in SMALL AMOUNTS. others have gotten rediculously stupid and....well BOOM!!! personally, i am not even considering nitrous until i have a full engine rebuild, port/polished head, stage II turbo cam, stage II valve springs, and a few other mods here and there. it is just not worth it. the engine will not take well to the stress whether it is a 35 shot or a 150 shot. good luck with your lancer

EDIT: try using the search button. there is a great deal of info on nitrous. here are two threads too start you off. good luck.

get bolt ons, less power but you can beat on your car all day without having to worry about it blowing up. nitrous is risky business
