weird stutter/putter when driving
Hey,
ive noticed for a while now, ever since the rrm crank pulley was installed (maybe 2 months ago?) , that my car does a weird studder and kinda putters as if its missing spark or ignition. It only seems to happen most often when im holding the car in either 3rd or 4th gear at a steady, constant speed as if i was on cruise control lets say.
It jerks and sometimes its really bad it send me forward as if i slammed on my brakes for a second. It also makes a weird "buurp buurp" sound like if it was backfireing but wtihouht the pop and it wasnt burning the fuel. Does that make sense?
Now i think this may all be because of the crank pulley but at the same time, i can't help but think it has always been like this since i got the car in Feb. 2007, brand new. But now it seems to happen all too often. Or this could be a totally different problem un related to my pulley.? I dont want to bring it in to the dealer because of the pulley, but i also dont want to take it off to have it come back....it made a difference and id hate to go back to stock! On top of that i dropped the stock pulley so i dont know if i trust it anymore...
Anyone have this issue with or without the pulley installeD? Or have an idea of what im talking about? haha

Sounds dangerous! I'd check out everything you did (or whoever did the install) around that area to make sure everything is in ship shape. No CELs? cuz that sounds pretty major!

I had that same problem but this was after a tune. The car would sputter WOT on 4th & 5th gear. I changed out my spark plug wires to stock and the problem went away. BTW, I had the POS magnecore wires.

Im thinking maybe something with timing, BUt at the same time, it's not consistant enough. It happens maybe every 2 out 3 times i drive the car, but it sounds like it idles normal, the rpm's are contant and normal.
But now the last couple days, specially yesterday i noticed that after letting go of the gas, after moving and coming to a stop, the idle will stay high between 1300-1500rpm for a few seconds, anywhere from 3-10seconds. And it will also just go to high revs as if i pressed the A/C on. You know that sound the car makes ? The enigne will rev higher for a few seconds after turning the a/c on? well, it does that randomly but often enough when im stopped at a light too now. I dont know if this is related or if its a vac leak or something or maybe my A/C is busted and stuck on the on position cause the air coming out of the vents is super cold but i dont have the a/c on and its not that cold outside yet.
I know the button that allows outside air to be cut off from coming inside the car, that doesnt light up anymore when i press it. This happened to me also the day i drive the car off the lot. But then it came back and worked and has been fine ever since...
The car only has 25 000 km on it. I have a CAI on it with a dry filter bag to keep the AEM cone from getting wet. Aside from that, no other mods that would affect my engine except the pulley.
Any ideas?
Sorry for the length...just want to get as much info out there.
Ill go in today and check wtih my mechanic that put the pullety on to see if they can look at it.

i went to the shop. The guy who installed it is a freind of mine. him and his brother opened a shop about 2 years ago. I asked him about the install, and he said all went well, nothing to report. He took a look at the pullley and it seemed normal and the marks are all where they should be.
So i dont know what's up wtih this car. Im kinda worried now because im buying the 16G RRM kit this week off Brian and im hoping this is all in my head...but i know its not.

i never touched them before. I doubt they will need to be changed...the car is almost new and i doubt at 25 000km (not sure what that is in miles) it needs replacing. But i guess ill go buy some new plugs. Ill give that a shot.

i know this is ancient, but i read somewhere that aftermarket pulley's aren't "sonically sound". supposedly, the stock one is sonically dampened to in tune with all the vibrations of the car while aftermarket pulley's aren't sonically dampened at all.
i forget where i read that. i'm not mechanically inclined, so don't hold me to that.
just thought i might take a stab at this problem.
