Hey, I got a similar issue. Not really an issue though. I'm 99% sure its the injectors/cold weather. However, I just noticed mine making these same sounds after I installed the new header. Maybe it has something to do with the better exhaust flow, maybe I just noticed it cuz I just started listening. Overall, I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem.

could be lifters but on all 4b11 lancers!!?? thats way too many people with same problem.. HMM try running 89 octane for one full tank see if that quiets them down.. I heard my tick as well not sure what to make of it....may be we should use thicker oil. I use recomended 5w20 i think it is.. may be we should try 10w40??? any input..? guys up north should be running thicker oil anyway due to temps!

There is something we can do about it. It is just not something worth doing anything about. We're all on the same side here. Learning the sounds of your engine is pretty important to troubleshooting things like incorrect oil weights, fuel octane, and engine performance.

this sounds like the same kind of issues i've experienced with my GSR. i definitely have the intermittent 'ticks' but sometimes it has been so loud (more like a 'snap') i almost thought the tranny was binding somewhere. there's also some definite expansion with the exhaust/catalytic converter when it's warming up but i guess it's pretty obvious we're talking about a different sound here.

you can fix it by removing the head and cleaning the lifters with diesel fuel. then it start doing it again. its the style of Mitsu lifters. of for the 4G63 guys....

Jeremy ton i think ive been on this site a little longer that you have and read a lot about the "ticking" sound coming from Mitsu engines. its the nature of the beast.

I agree with all of that. Good stuff to know. Thanks for the links. I've been working on the camshafts of a 4runner and the 'ticking' 'knocking' 'diesel' like sounds were from a ruined exhaust camshaft gear spring. My buddy and I knew it wasn't the injectors; but I believe its the loud injectors of a diesel that make the same sound. Which may be why so many people think its that on our engines. Lifters it is, and its Mitsubishi's fault.

Lancerguy, it's all good.
