Ill sure to let you guys know what the outcome is...at the moment it was is rather bright and cost effective.

Plan on going to the salvage yard tomorrow , after class then proceed to take the problem from there.

As a sidenote, does anyone know how MAF sensor problem would manifest itself? basically does it sync up with what I talked about I was experiencing?

yes it does, its like when you first install an aftermarket intake to your car and you first turn it on, the car kinda idles funny and does weird things.

if your maf sensor is not functioning properly you will get strange ratios of Air and fuel causing your car to act like it did.

you shouldnt worry about this NOT being the problem especially since the dealer pointed it as the problem (altho dealers are not always right, for a simple problem like this one it sounds like they are)

i recommend this site to EVERYONE that is looking for a part especially newer models they have soo many parts for our cars already.

Final Update: My car is back in action and feeling better than ever. In total from a huge $750 bill I was quoted for by the dealership I paid only $165 tax included. I used a great salvage year located out in queens , ny Alliance Auto Parts got the MAF for 50 bucks off a 2009 lancer , I actually have the 08 so upgrade? j/k. Got charged the 115 for the diag.scan. So , all in all things didn't turn out to badly pretty light on the wallet I think most would agree. I just want to thank those that came through with some clutch info and helped in this process.

I think you handled this ok but it would have been better if you contacted RRM first. its possible there might have been something they could do for you to help you figure out whats wrong, and also how to deal with your dealership. Changing your intake doesnt void your warranty out right, especially for your entire powertrain. Its entirely possible that your sensor was sitting incorrectly or may have had an obstruction of air ahead of the sensor.

Second, I would contact Mitsubishi Corp immediately to share your side of the story. Be active about this and dont let a dealership slander your warranty agreement.
