Cars at 150k kms, dealership recommends timing belt replacement..

..for $615. its a recession dammit!!

A must do? he said its a 4 hour job. And if I do have to get it done do you think it'd be ok to get it done from any shop. I know this immigrant owned place that does everything for half the price of everyone else.

EDIT: Did some searches. Hmm it looks like this may be a doable job for me...

yes its a must do, an you can take it to any place.. I bought my own belt and water pump and took it to my cousin who's a mechanic and owns his own shop, he installed it for 300. And local mechanics are a lot cheaper like 60-75 bucks an hour, dealerships are 85+, so buy the parts you're self and find a dependable local mechanic and save your self some cash. And if you dont, your belt could snap and be screwed.

I had mine replaced during the summer for my 100k km tune-up. I had it done at a regular garage though, not the dealer. I'll check my bill tonight to see how much it cost me.

the belt itself from a auto parts store is like 50 bux and the water pump is like 90. its not that hard to do its just a lot of prep and un prep work.

Ok, I had my first one done at a little over 100k and paid like $600 from the dealer and I don't want to do that again...

I wouldn't wait if I was you, to be honest. I am just too freaked out at having my engine seize.
