Using Mobil 1 or Castrol 0w30. Keeps the lifter noise to a minimum and theoretically the 0w should minimize cold start wear. Not such an issue in the lower latitudes but it's probably below 40degrees F almost half the year here and temperatures approaching zero are not uncommon.

When using a vehicle that is equipped with a turbo, it is 100% mandatory that you use only synthetic oil. A dyno oil is not chemically structured to handle the heat that a turbo can put out. You have a turbo that is spinning very very fast and that raises the temperature of the oil tremendously. Now if you have a weak or poorly made oil, the oil will break down and lose its protection quicker. But with most synthetics, this is not an issue.

An oil that I have always sworn by is Valvoline because they seem to actually pay attention to their oil. You always want to go with an oil with a more pure synthetic stock. For example Valvoline Vs Castrol. Valvoline has a more pure synthetic stock so it will withhold higher temperatures for a longer duration of time vs Castrol.

As far as oil FILTERS, I have no idea. I use a Bosch oil filter on mine, but I don't know which one flows the best while holding a good filtration rate. Recommendations?

I hate the fact that the rumor of using anything other than castol or using a synthetic will blow your turbo. That rumor got started by RRM when a customer blew his motor.

Why castrol? Because they had a commercial that featured the rrm turbo ralliart. Endorsements.

The guy who blew his motor even came back and said it was because his tune was off.

I ran synthetic for a year on my old setup and not a single problem.

So that was all bs then, basically it's cool to run synthetic turbo or n/a. Are you still running synthetic with no problems?

You're exactly right, since 80% of an engines wear occurs at startup when the engine is cold and the oil is too thick to flow (even 0 weight) it is very important to use lower weight oil in cooler temp areas of the country.

For turbo, always synthetic. Unless you're racing or in hotter temps, M1 0W30, or 5W30 work fine and don't void warranty. General rule of thumb is the spread between lower weight and upper shouldn't be more than 30 pts.

What are "diesel oils"?
Shell Rotella?

As a effort the stop anyone else from asking this already answered question;
It is OK to use synthetic oil, N/A or turbo.
It is better to use it!

Now let's see how long until someone asks again.

Shell Rotella T6 (5w-40) is in the motor right now.
I'd also like to try Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w-40 next.
I was using Amsoil Dominator Series 10w-30 but it was getting pricey,
I'll see how these 2 oils compare after I send it in for analysis

02 lancer OZ (<--not like it matters). Owned and operated DD, track use for fun. 10-30 mobil1/M1 filter. switched shortly to 5-30 for better fuel economy. Ive changed it early, on time, and even a few hundred if not couple thousand over the 3k mark. Not 1 issue at all. No debris, sludge or whatnot. Its responsive and holds its worth...atleast IMO. Synthetic > conventional hands down.

Btw i got the car used @ 77k on the motor, now at 140,000 (in 3 years yeah ik im a mileage *****). But nonetheless 3 years goin strong about to see the DOHC swap soon as i get the valve cover.(Waiting 3 months impatiently for).

But back to topic...im curious to try Pennz Ultra to see its worth...(I'm mechanic @ pepboys) so the price doesnt bother me to be curious hahaha.

Some of the old timers i work with tell me Royal poopoo is crap...id trust their opinion since the used to run there cars back in the day and wouldnt ever dare throwing purple power in it.

< done ranting and raving

03 oz, 1 year turbo, 5w-30 mobile1 and happy. I use mobile1 filters too, and change every 5k.

Synthetic handles heat better, just a fact, only downside to synthetic is the price...
