How reliable are Lancers?

How reliable are 2002 and 2003 lancers? Also, can lancers be serviced at any mechanic? (Some cars have to be serviced at a specialty or foreign shop because tools at a standard mechanic shop are not compatible with the car.)
Thanks in advance for replies!

Any professional mechanic could work on lancers. Lancer is not very hard to play around. Just like my car, a lancer, this is like my toy whenever I wanna do something like an experiment. I use my lancer for practice.

Lancer is actually one of the most reliable cars out there.
Unlike some crappy Spec-V or SVT it wasn't assembled in Mexico,
where they try to safe up on screws,
Lancer was assembled in Japan.
The only thing they could change about the car is the clutch disc.
It wears out really fast, so after a while it's good to change it
to RRM clutch.

Lancer super easy car to get at different engine parts, simple design put together, nothing crazy. Any mechanic should be able to work on it.

Trust me, the clutch isn't such a breeze. You have to drop the subframe to get access to all the bolts, and to open the thing up. Aside from that I concur. It's well assembled and pretty sturdy for a car in its price range. In stock form complaints are minimal. The most common one I've heard is noise coming from the suspension, particularly in the rear. Even those cases seem to be few and far between. The only thing the Lancer lacks is power really, but it has more torque available at earlier RPMs than most cars in its class/price range, and it's peppier in the 5spd manual. Just remember when you read around that nobody posts that their car's working great, so don't be suprised if you find complaints, but not as much praise. For every one complaint you read (legitimate or otherwise) there area several other completely happy Lancer owners out there, both on the forums and off.
