Kris. i know the RS 95-99 had a 420a, but for some reeason i thought that the 95-99 gs(not gst or gsx) was an NA 4g63...oh well

Which series of the eclipse has the 4G63, like which years and which models? What's the difference between the GS-T and the GSX or whatever models?

the 1g(90-94) eclipse had both NA and turbo 4g63. the 2g(95-99) had the 420a in the NA models and the 4g63 in the turbo models. the gs-t was a fwd turbo 4g63. the gs-x was the awd turbo model. the eclipse platform was also shared with the eagle talon and plymouth laser of the same model years. i don't know their particular trim designations though.

i think the 420a made more power than the NA 4g63 so i don't think they'd use both engines in the same model years.

i think there was also a NA 1.8L in the base model 1g eclipse, though i don't know what engine code it had.

The 1.8 1g DSM had the 4g37 . . . 2 valves per cycle making about a whopping 93 HP.

http://www.machvforums.com/showthrea...ighlight=300HP

A little mockery . . . don't know who.

BTW: the silver valve cover engine pic . . . not enough detail to tell any definative proof of what engine, besides being Mitsu.

Interestingly enough, those 1.8 DSMs and the Expos are what our technicians say are the best cars Mitsu ever built - they last forever.

Don't forget 2G GS Spyders had NA 4G64 2.4L's - a hair more power and little more torque for the heavier car. 140/130 vs. 141/148.

no. you have to make them. i think some of the first ones tried to mate a gsx drivetrain to a sypder gs-t. then some say you should just get a gs-x and make it convertible. i dunno. sounds like nasty work altogether...

yeah, but this is getting off-topic...

The best/only way I've seen it done is to add AWD to a Spyder, not cut the roof out of a GSX. People have made targa GSX's but that isn't the same thing. Apparently its easier to make Spyder AWD then it is to make a GS-T into it because the rear of a Spyder is closer to a GSX then it is to a 2wd coupe.

But now, I've hard of guys doing 4G63T AWD swaps into Avengers for suprisingly little money, so I guess anything is possible with the right custom parts and time. I was going to eventually buy a built engine for my GS-T and stick my current engine into my Galant, but why stop there? Might as well plan for an eventual AWD upgrade for a nice street sleeper.

Still, I think the Evo VI+ swap into 02 Lancer (or any late model Mitsu) will be the next big thing a few years from now as more and more Evo 8's and up get parted out.
