What I have heard is that the new Neon will be a 4 door hatch. It may also come as a Sedan. Chrysler is currently trying to ditch Mitsubishi. So the thought that a SRT-4 will be a rebaged Evo or vise-verse is basicly unrealistic I think at this point. Notice how the Evo IX is basicly a Evo MR (from what I hear). I don't think anyone is wondering what the next Evo will be in Mitsubishi, more like, will there be a Mitsubishi in the next 5-7 years?
Undoubtably the SRT-4 will continue to be a performance leader. Cheap and fast. I'm sure it will remain roughly 250hp FWD, that is part of the reason the car is so ripping fast, simple and cheap. AWD systems add wieght, cost and rob horse power, just ask the WRX.
I would expect to see the same set up we see now in the SRT-4. As for a Lancer being so much better then a Neon. Neon out powers a Lancer, goes faster, gets better gasmileage and has three engines to choose from. Not to mention its cheaper and has better resale* (when considering true purchase price and resale value).

there engines also sound like CRAP! i test drove one when i was buying my lancer. wow am i glad i got my lancer. this neon had under 25k miles and the engine sounded horrible. the sales man said its because the car has been sitting in the lot all day and while we were driving he turns up the strereo lol. when i test drove my lancer we did it when no music on and windows rolled up. not one bad sound

Not all engines are created equal. The 130hp base SOHC Neon engine has a lot of "slap" but is sturdy and decent on gas. When mated to the old bullet-proof 3spd auto (up till 02) it gets about 24mpg. The nicer Neon engine is the R/T with the Magnum head. 150hp and it sounds great with a nice cat-back. Neons also has an excellent update for 2003, which put in a much nicer interior witha 3-spoke wheel.

oh well there ugly LOL. well i dont know..i've seen a few srt-4's that look pretty damn good. but i can think of more lancers that look better than neons. out of every 10 lancers i see half of them are tricked out.....neons on the other hand...maybe 1 in 10 may have nice rims and tint on them thas it lol. but then agen maybe there not really street racing cars, besdies the srt-4 at least.

To me, and many other people (like the majority of the market), there is little difference in the Lancer and Neon, both compete for dead last in the compact sedan market.

And you live where? SoCal? Price reflects region as well my friend. That car would be asking 19k hear and sold for 17,500. Coworkers firend just sold his for 16,800 with 27k and a dented fender.
