Repaint from Mitsu questions and concerns
As many of you already know I won getting my 05 Lancer repainted due to chipping paint on the hood. The chips aren't that bad, but concerned me because it happened within two weeks of purchasing the car. Actually looks like rock chips on a cheap *** paint job from the factory. My question is would you let the dealer repaint, or just live with it?
My dad is retired from the auto industry and beat on and painted cars all his life. He said he wouldn't do it if it were his because when he worked he wouldn't paint unless he did the job as if it were his own car so it would last a lifetime, and say for example if Mitsu book says 2 hrs to paint a hood for example because the book always is low on the hours, there is no way it can be done and be done right in 2 hrs and the painter knows that, but he only gets those "2hrs" pay on the hood when theoretically it might take 4 hrs to do it and do it right. His point was that there are hardly any painters in the world that are going to do a nice job repainting for what they get paid because they don't make half what they should for the work they do IF they do it right. He also said even worse yet since the factory is paying them to repaint, probably less book hours for jobs then if the body estimator was writing the estimate, and knowing that said my paint job might be cheesier than what is already on it and if it falls off and cracks up in a year I'm screwed because they aren't painting it again for free.
What is your feel on this?

how much do u have to pay the dealer for the repaint? my hood also has so many paint chip spots and they are hella visible because my car is mystic blue. If i were u i would just live with it because its just a lancer ES and its not worth repaint because no matter how many times u let mitsu paint it, they're still gonna use the same cheap paint and paint hastily. just my .02

dont let them paint it man. when i bougth my tarmac black evo there is a discoloration (roof and hood) so they paint it when they finished it they just mess up the car they put a lot of scratch on the car ang dings too. if its not bad dont let them do it.

I see no issue with painting it. Most dealers have good paint shops. Experences with paint will be unique because it is such a skill and labor intense job.
If they properly sand it, prime it and paint it, it should look factory new.
