Broken AEM CAI

wtf...so i was doing my regular maintenance on my car ( oil change, spark plus..i.e) and i was cleaning up the air filter on my AEM CAI when i notice that where the bracket that connects to the frame has several gashes NOT on the bracket itself but around the bracket...the actual tube had a couple gashs..one was about 1 inch long..i've had the CAI since...last July? so a little less then a year... has anyone else expierenced this problem with their CAI from AEM? So i took it down to my friends shop and had it welded back together...made me sad to see my parts falling apart.. Isn't AEM a reputable brand and good quality or am i mislead by all the media?

I've had two, never had that problem.

Maybe a bad one? Maybe some install issues?

My friend had the same problem with his AEM ona sentra ser spec V. We are not sure what caused it and he never tried to get AEM to replace. Just welded it all back together and it is fine now. Did you ever notice a differance in how the car sounded? His sounded bad before the fix.

AEM is a pretty good brand. But anytime there is engine movement or something rubbing against another stationary component in the engine, it will wear thru quick. I put my RRM header on with the stock heatshield and I only drove about 25 miles and the heatshield almost rubbed thru the plastic radiator fan support. The biggest thing is to make sure all your intake components are secured in place and not rubbing on anything. The best way to check this is to rev your engine at the throttle body with your finger and look to make sure nothing is rubbing. If it is, take necessary steps like extra hose clamps or mount points to keep it from moving.

I have not had that problem but I have heard a clicking noise that clicks 3 times when I start the car. I hear it from the top of the engine bay where the AEM pipe goes into the intake manifold. Has anyone heard of that or could it?
Its quiet but if you listen for it you will hear it.

my only suggetions on this...CHECK YOUR BATTERY TRAY. my CAI made this loud noise which I thought sounded like my tranny giving out because it would make a sound everytime I changed gears and hit the pedal.

check that out...make sure no piping is hitting anything...and u should be fine.

hate to say it, but I'm joining the club of damaged AEM Cold Air Intakes.

I pulled out my left headlight to inspect for leaks and I noticed that the bracket that held the last piping where the filter is just snapped off where the welds were around. I was like WTF there's a hole the size of a half dollar on my intake! AEM suppose to stand by their products and I was standing there in disbelief. This happened sometime after my incident a few posts up but I do not know exactly when.

Kinda ghetto rigged it, but I put duck tape around it with a padding of some gutter insulation crap to better seal off the hole. Just as I thought, my car felt the way it did before. For sometime it felt sluggish and I just thought it was me needing a new mod. 3rd was pulling compared to how it was, just dragging.

anyone else w/ a similar problem?
