Exhaust loudness Q

Nooooooobbbbbbb Question: Do I gain more HP if my exhaust is loud as hell??

No seriously... my catback is hella freakin loud. Inside and outside the cabine. I don't really want to change the whole exhaust system so I'm wondering what can I do to tone it down a bit. I've always thaught the resonator might be too small but never been 100% sure so never did anything about it. The piping is either 2.25 or 2.5. I've got a set of Kamikaze header + Dp as well which doesn't help loudness wise.

What do you guys think I could do to lower the sound of my catback?

Mods: I meant this to be in Engine talk, so feel free to move it where it belongs

Its the header making it loud.. but make a silencer for the catback. look at the universal mufflers on ebay and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. You could custom fab one to fit.. or just get some resonators or another cat.. lol.

After installing my header, my magnaflow exhaust was hella loud - deafening at highway speeds. So I had a Magnapack (the Magnaflow resonator) installed in my exhaust and its helped a ton to silence the exhaust. Now its back to its mean, deep, beefy self . FYI I paid $90 for the polished stainless resonator total including installation

Look into a silencer perhaps? Do they make universal ones?

Blaze I could sell you the Magnaflow thats on my car, that will help a bit. But a lot of it is the DP and the Headers. the piping size is 2-1/4 that you have (if your still using the same system). You could always install another resignator. Or do as wiretap suggested and get a sinlencer....course that will be fun trying to get one for your tip. LOL

Silencer = Resonator - And it is universal. You jsut get the ends to match the diameter of your pipe. Mine is 2.5".

A siliencer is a insert for your muffler, a resignator is located in your center pipe. On a stock exhaust it looks like a mini muffler.

i may have missed it but is your exhaust a bolt on or custom bent? when i did my RRM header and a custom DP the exhaust became loud as hell, just like yours...i changed over my muffler from an apex'i GT spec to the N-1 style and it quited down the ride quite a bit. if you've got a custom exhaust it might be something to consider..

z, do you have the magnaflow catback?

thats what i got, and it came with a resonator and muffler, which was nice, but with headers, i agree, its just too loud.

are you saying get another resonator welded inline?

Yes... get the resonator. I have it on mine and it gets rid of that ricey sound. Go to www.kteller.com . I think they have them in 2.5 as well

I guess... the bigger the Volume of the resonator, the lower the sound will be?
