new CF trunk w/o key hole question

I Just ordered a SEIBON CF trunk from accolade. It does not come with a key-hole and I have seen a few guys on here w/o the key hole. Do you just remove the key piece and unconnect it from the latch? also, did you remove one of the opening springs? I am mounting a cerious cf evo VIII on the trunk, not sure if that added weight will make it necessary to remove a spring. I did search for you people who are quick to tell to search but didnt really see these questions directly answered. thanks.

the keyhole you can just disconnect and take away. pop it from the Drivers seat.

clueless on the spring, i would imagine it's not that much added weight and the spring would have to go too. but i don't really kno

you have to take out both springs. one spring supports one side. if you don't remove both, it will try to lift only one side so that It won't align. And taking out springs are the pain( you have to take out back seat and the cover. you will need a special tool to reinstall. So, once you take out, you won't be able to put it back untill you get that special tool to twist the springs.

Has anyone taken the keyhole out of their stock trunk and filled in the hole? I think it'd look great and a how to would be nice.

im thinking of just removing one spring will make it lift just enouph to get my hand under it to lift it. I see mabey the tention while its shut will lift one side and not make it even, I see your point. The cf wing is listed at like 8 pounds so I may not need to remove any but that was my thought.

wangman- that has been done. Its a matter of removing key hole from latch and just getting some bondo to cover the hole, sand and paint.

don't remove the springs... when u pop it, just put ur hand near the bottom and pull it up... my trunk has the evo8 replica spoiler (abs) and when i pop the trunk it doesn't open but maybe 1mm, all i do is put my fingers on the bottom of the trunk and it opens.

and you have a cf trunk? the stock trunk with a wing swings all the way open, i figured a cf trunk/wing would as well.
if thats the case ill be very happy.

I have an evo wing as well on a stock trunk and mine opens all of an inch or so when i pop it open. However ive heard that the carbon fiber trunk is so much lighter even with the wing that youll need to remove the springs or it just FLYS when you pop it.

Id suggest just install it and have someone standing there when you pop it to see what happens and maybe catch the trunk if it flys up. You arent going to permanently damge the trunk if you just test it. Although like he was saying once you get those springs off its hard to get back on.

yeah, remove both torsion bars inside the trunk. If you only remove one your trunk will NOT fit right, it will pull to one side since the bars give even pull to both sides. I have a CF trunk and have messed with it alot. The only pain is that you'll have to prop open the trunk when you want it open since it won't stay open on it's own anymore.

to solve the problem of keeping it open....

would it be possible to modify the quick lift kit ACCOLADE has out for the hood to get it to work for the trunk. I have no idea of the set up, but it sounds pretty plausable

There is a Quick Lift kit out for CF Trunks...I used to have one on my car.
Just so everyone knows, the maker of the Quick Lift kits is Redline Tuning. Try going to www.redlinetuning.com and you'll be able to find the kit there.
