i've got an ECU in the mail. it should be here tomorrow night (thursday). we'll see if that helps my dilemma.....otherwise, i will be really upset.

problem solved...it was not the ECU though.
the whole wiring harness that runs from the battery to the fuse box, out to the o2 sensor, tsp sensor, camshaft positioning sensor, coils, injectors, etc..........let's just say it melted...3-4 wires were fused together causing a huge short. my buddy rob is an electrician so i threw it at him and said "fix this" so yeah, he did his splicing, soldering, and whatever other fun things those guys do.......whatver, the car runs and i am f***ing excited to be back in my lancer!!!!
i took the car for a ride when everything was settled....to say the least, the wires and that plastic casing stuff started to melt again. in the morning i will pick up some thermal tape, wrap them, then zip-tie it away from the block....i'm glad the problem wasn't as bad as the initial diagnosis had led me to believe. i think all this stress means i need to get another tattoo...then rebuild that other motor thanks for your help guys.

Great to see that you're back up and running! Congrats!
But.. . . im kinda worried that its even melting in the first place. maybe im missing the point. if you fried a stock wiring harness, maybe some temperature readings are in order. Just a thought, though.
Also, i forgot that the melting may be coming from the wire itself. you'll know that for sure when you zip tie it off from the engine, if it melts again, theres something REALLY wrong.
